		Physicochemical characteristics of water of Karwan river, Agra, U.P, India, were studied at various sampling stations in the stretch of 15 Km towards upstream from its merger into Yamuna to assess the magnitude of pollution.
		The parameters showed that the river was highly polluted at station Ill in all the seasons due to the discharge of domestic and industrial effluents into it.
		The radionuclide concentrations in Periyar river at the industrial zone showed significant reduction, by factors ranging form 3 to 5 during the post1980 period as compared to pre1980 due to better effluent treatment practices adopted by industrial units situated on the river bank.

	Bending the rivers to facilitate farming
		According to the project, the water of Naar, Paar, Damanganga, Ulhas and Vaitarna rivers flowing westwards into the Arabian sea would be diverted into the Godavari and Tapi valleys.
		The corporation has identified 27 bends in the river valleys: 11 in the Naar and Paar valley; 11 in the Damanganga valley and 5 in the Vaitarna valley.

		At 2:00 on Saturday afternoon, the final concrete was poured for the 2,309-meter-long, 185-meter-high main wall of the Three Gorges Dam, which by then began to have capacity of holding water.
