Welcome to MICHAEL FLEXIGs official Homepage
MF left COMBO COLOSSALE and, together with hanovarian musicians ZENO ROTH and ULE W., he recorded a legendary demo-tape which in the end was leading to one of the biggest record deals for a newcomer-band during the last 30 years.
During formentioned demo-session ULI JON ROTH, former leadguitarrist in SCORPIONS, became aware of MF.
In 2001 MF participated on the ULI JON ROTH Europian tour, due to separate obligations only in Germany, Berlin, Bochum, Hannover, Detmold.

Artists2Events - ULI JON ROTH - TOUR DATES
ULI JON ROTH is renowned for his soaring, singing melodies performed with a rich and expressive range of tones.
Uli would be the first to point out 'Earthquake's shortcomings - particularly the vocals - but due to the nature of the whole Electric Sun ethos - the freedom of the three-piece format - it would have been nigh on impossible to just slot in a vocalist and expect it to work.
Uli chose to write the guitar parts with ruthless disregard to the technical limitations of the instrument...with only one small problem: half-way through the writing of the Concerto, it began to dawn on Uli that even the Sky Guitar would not be able to cope with the enormous technical demands of this music.

No Life 'til Metal - CD Gallery - Uli Jon Roth
Uli's first solo output after his split with the Scorpions gave him a chance to stretch out a bit and explore his love for all things Hendrix and psychadelic.
Uli's vocals are a bit odd to my ears and become a bit of a distraction, albeit a distraction that diminishes with repeated listens.
I have to admit that while I love Uli Roth's Hendrix inspired guitar playing and find the material he did with the Scorpions to be some of their best, I am not as big a fan of Uli's vocals.

 Uli Jon Roth Biography
Roth's playing owed an obvious debt to Jimi Hendrix, but the elegance of his lead lines, the fluidity of his phrasing, and his use of alternate scales learned from classical training all helped push his oeuvre into another realm entirely.
Uli Jon Roth was born Ulrich Roth in Dusseldorf, Germany, on December 18, 1954.
In 2000, Roth released Transcendental Sky Guitar, a two-CD set of recent live and studio material (including selections from a special 1999 concert in Vienna) that was split into classical and rock-oriented halves.

Chris Ruel's Neoclassical Music Reviews: Uli Jon Roth
The amount of detail and effort that UJR put into this aspect of the album is so clearly perceivable that it gives the music an entirely new dimension that brings the notes and music to life with the animated yet refined inflections that UJR crafts his interpretations.
Uli Jon Roth has gotten his chops up to snuff with the best of them now and has taken the neoclassical movement by storm.
For those of you who have written off Uli Jon Roth as a pioneer who had played his piece, had made his contribution to the neoclassical movement, and had moved on to become a historical footnote, you had better take another look.

The Fretboard - Uli Jon Roth - Metamorphosis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Uli's playing has continued to evolve since his Scorpions days and is way beyond what it was back then.
Another annoying habit of Roth is that he always has to take that walk down his depressing, melodramatic "story of the Apocalypse" road, but this time he thankfully confines it to the verses he wrote for the accompanying booklet.
But getting back to Roth: Aside from his raw, unearthly talent, it took a guy with Roth's maturity, character, and sense of unwavering respect for the material he's presenting (which means respect for the composer who created it,) to pull off something of this magnitude without making a mockery of it.

Roth's control over the instrument is amazing, he is capable of achieving the most subtle, soft and velvety notes with such grace and beauty while at the same time he is able to lash out the most agressive barrage of notes at such speed it's completely mesmerizing.
Uli captures all of the Season's magic so incredibly well it will make you wonder if the piece wasn't actually written for the Sky Guitar; every note is there and played exactly as Vivaldi intended it.
Uli also adds some other elements that make it stand out: There are some drums thrown in at certain points (which acrecent some of the Season's more powerful moments) and sound effects like lightnings, howling winds, forest noises and other things that create a very submersive environment.

Uli Jon Roth - Transcendental Sky Guitar reviewed by The House of Shred
For the past 3 decades, Uli Jon Roth has been one of the most influential and most underrated guitarists in the world.
And notice that I say "guitarist" and not "Rock guitarist" or "Metal guitarist" because even though Uli used to be a great "Rock" guitarist (his work with the Scorpions is legendary), he has evolved so much that I can not, or rather refuse to categorize him.
With Transcendental Sky Guitar, Uli has a message for us, so let me warn you that to really absorb this message and capture the feel of this record, it must be listened to in order, from beginning to end.

Uli Jon Roth (formerly of the 70’s Scorpions lineup) has a well-established solo career with several releases to his credit.
The first part consists of Vivaldi compositions (arranged and orchestrated by Roth) with the exception of the first track “Prelude to the Seasons,” and the second consist of all Uli Jon Roth compositions.
According to Roth in his revealing liner notes about the project, he began with the intention of staying focused on the formality and tradition of the music without varying from that course.

She would provide Uli with a crystal-clear view of Jimi's artistic vision and would become a major influence on Roth's own work.
The record marked another first with Roth tackling all keyboards, displaying an especially fluent finesse on piano in the tune "Why?" Tribute albums are always controversial subjects: some people just love to see what other artists make of the blueprints delivered by their idols, other people are horrified by the sacrilege, and if you are not even into the artist the tribute is about, it's plainly uninteresting and hard to judge.
This Uli Jon Roth tribute has been carefully planned by Lars Eric Mattsson, and features many of the artists playing in bands signed by the Finnish guitar record label Lion Music.
All in all, I can't do much with this album, but Mattsson says this is not about being better than UJR (I guess that would be a sacrilege), but it's about saying thank you to their biggest inspiration.
