Broderick will be reprising his role as meek accountant Leo Bloom in The Producers, opposite Nathan Lane, who created the stage role of devious Broadway producer Max Bialystock.

 Theater Springtime for Mel Brooks
Brooks runs down the rest of the Boston cast, showering accolades on everyone, but let’s skip to the good part, where he praises Ida Leigh Curtis, who plays the Swedish secretary/ " actress " Ulla, in typical Brooksian fashion.
Brooks will turn 77 a week and half into the Boston run of The Producers, and unlike Woody Allen, Jim Carrey, and other comedic writers and performers out to try something different or perhaps prove themselves as " serious artists, " he has never tried to write anything that wasn’t funny.
Reviewing the The Producers after it opened in April 2001 at the St. James Theatre, New York Times critic Ben Brantley wrote, " It is, to put it simply, the real thing: a big Broadway book musical that is so ecstatically drunk on its powers to entertain that it leaves you delirious, too.

Nathan lane And Matthew Broderick Are perfectly cast in their roles and Caddy Hoffman is great, and when Ulla belt, she Belts!
Lane and Broderick play off each other perfectly, Cady Huffman has one of the best belting voices I've heard in ages, and the songs are actually FUNNY.
But what really gets the whole mix working is a surefire cast headed by Nathan Lane playing Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick doing a delightfully nebbish turn with delusions of misplaced glory as his sidekick, Leo Bloom.

The Producers @ Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London
After a string of flops, Broadway producer Max Bialystock (Lane) hatches a plan, with his anxiety prone accountant Leo Bloom (a suitably twitchy Lee Evans), to gather investment for the most tasteless, appalling stage show they can think of, and pocket the cash when the show inevitably closes.
You have to pity whoever's lined up to replace Nathan Lane after he vacates his role in the Producers at the start of the new year.
Though he is hardly a fantastic singer and his dancing is continually outshone by the supporting cast, he has a definite chemistry with Lane and is, unsurprisingly, adept at all the required pratfalls; it isn't a criticism of his performance to say that he more than holds his own.
