Ulleung County (Ulleung-gun) is a county in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.
It consists mainly of the island of Ulleung-do, but is held to cover a total of 44 islands, including Dokdo, which is contested by Japan.
Administratively, the county is divided into Ulleung-eup (including Dokdo), Buk-myeon and Seo-myeon.

ULLEUNG, South Korea, Feb. 12 (Yonhap) -- South Korean provincial councils are planning to hold a series of anti-Japanese protests on Dokdo to counter Japanese territorial claims to the East Sea islets, officials said Saturday.
The council of Ulleung County, to which Dokdo belongs, said it will hold a ceremony on Dokdo on March 1 to celebrate the March 1 Independence Movement Day.
The council said its councilors and some Ulleung residents will gather on Dokdo for the March 1 ceremony and issue a joint statement denouncing Japan's territorial claims over the South Korean islets.

According to the Environment Ministry, the planned new park will be named "Ulleung National Park," which covers 300 square kilometers of land and waters on and around the islands.
"Ulleungdo and Dokdo are unspoiled islands with unexplored land," said Heo Su-man, vice chief of Ulleung-gun county.
Ulleungdo and Dokdo were identified as volcanic islands with sites of peculiar scenic beauty such as sea cliffs formed by coastal erosion, pillar-shaped joints and habitats for rare animals and plants.

Dokdo is also mentioned in the "Annals of King Sejong" (Sejong Sillok Jiriji), a series of historical texts from the king who ruled from 1418 to 1450.
A later version, titled "The Revised and Augmented Version of the Survey of the National Geography of Korea" (Sinjeung Donggukyeojiseungnam) and published in 1531, indicated the Island as Korean territory.
The historical fact that Dokdo belongs to Korea was confirmed over the centuries by numerous other documents and maps published in Korea and abroad, and even in Japan.

The Treaty on Basic Relations between Japan and the Republic of Korea that the Japanese and South Korean governments ratified states that a bilateral dispute should be solved by talks.
In 512, the 13th year of the King Jijeung, the Annals records that State of Usan including Ulleung Island belonged to the Silla Dynasty; and it is generally inferred from this that the Seok-do was incorporated into the Dynasty along with the Ulleung-do.
The geography book or Jiriji, compiled in the year 1432 of the Joseon Dynasty, also records that two islands, Usan and Ulleung were on the sea to the due east.
