 Expanding Ulster college answers call of changing county
Ulster County Community College, part of the State University of New York, held its first classes in 1963 at a temporary location in the Ulster Academy building in Kingston, a building intended for elementary school students.
The college moved to its permanent campus at Stone Ridge, a site in the geographical center of Ulster County, in time for the fall 1967 semester.
Ulster embraces technology and the enhancements it brings to the learning experience through state-of-the-art computer labs, distance learning opportunities, electronic library resources accessible from campus and home, and an interactive Web site.

KINGSTON - Lawmakers are reviewing a report showing Ulster County is faced with a sharply rising use of highways during the next 25 years while there is a dwindling pool of funding available to provide drivers with safe commutes.
The information in a 50-page report from the Ulster County Transportation Council was provided during a county Planning Department presentation last week.
According to the state Department of Transportation, the highest average daily volume of traffic in Ulster County is 43,586 vehicles on the Thruway between the Orange County line and New Paltz interchange.
