 Translink (Northern Ireland) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Translink is the brand name of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Company (NITHCo), a public corporation of Northern Ireland charged to oversee the provision of public transport in the country.
NITHCo was established by in 1967 to take over the railway and bus services of the Ulster Transport Authority (UTA), namely Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) and Ulsterbus.
In 1996 the Translink organization was created to integrate the services of the Ulster Transport Authority as well as Citybus Limited (Belfast only - successor to the Belfast Corporation Transport Department).

 Ulsterbus Vehicle Types
Ulsterbus had still kept it until maybe less than a year ago in the hope of preserving it, but apparently it had rotted away so much that they just sold it for scrap.
Ulsterbus has kept its REs much longer, and as I mentioned before, I think the oldest bus still in service with Ulsterbus is an RE from late 1977, 2190 (POI 2190), based in Newtownabbey.
Ulsterbus bought 10 B10Ls to use on Derry city services early in 1997, one of which is seen in its home city in the photograph below.

 Fair Trading Agreement
Ulsterbus subscribes to the Code of Conduct of the Bonded Coach Holiday Group (BCH) of the Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) and has been approved for membership of the BCH.
The BCH requires a bond to be taken out to provide protection in the unlikely event that a member cannot carry out his obligations to his passengers for financial reasons.
If we cancel your tour at any time, Ulsterbus is liable only for any monies you may have paid to Ulsterbus at the time of cancellation and for the compensation payments as detailed in paragraph 3 above.

It was withdrawn by Ulsterbus in 1971 and is now preserved by a private owner in Co. Antrim.

 Ulsterbus warn of delays and changes to timetables
Ulsterbus are advising passengers of changes and possible delays to their journey timetable this weekend in Counties Antrim and Armagh.
Elsewhere, Ulsterbus have warned of delays in Templepatrick area due to roadworks.
A spokesperson for Ulsterbus said that the 300 service to the International Airport would be expected to experience delays on both inward and outward journeys.

I suppose this all shows how the average age of the Ulsterbus fleet is steadily rising.
It used to have 'Ulsterbus EXPRESS' painted on its side (this was before Goldliners were invented), and had special straps attached to the roof inside, for standing passengers to hold on to.
For a few years now it has been ordinary Ulsterbus Leopard 111, now re-registered TBZ 8399 and as far as I can see must be the only Ulsterbus ever with a Co. Down number (one Flexibus I think has a BZ number).

Transport firm Translink said that from Friday Ulsterbus Leopards will be withdrawn from the province's roads.
The disappearance of the Leopards will bring to an end a bus body type which has represented Ulsterbus and Citybus throughout most of their existence.
In total 681 Leopard buses were built for Ulsterbus and its predecessor, the Ulster Transport Authority (UTA) by Leyland.

By 1973, Ulsterbus had been in into existence for six years, and had placed new vehicle orders for a total of 474 new buses and coaches in that time.
They retained their Ulsterbus livery layout, initially with the blue stripes being repainted red (Citybus style), and then changing to a similar shade of orange to that of Manchester based SELNEC PTE.
Vehicles nearing the end of their lives were retained as a Reserve fleet to cover losses, while services which were likely to have a higher risk of vehicle loss also tended to be operated by the older members of the fleet, albeit sometimes only on a temporary basis.

By 1978 Ulsterbus had been in existence for eleven years, and in that period had placed a total of around 920 new buses and coaches into service.
The year 2006 is expected to see the end of the Leyland Leopard in Ulsterbus service, bringing with it an end to the Alexander body design which has been a feature of Northern Ireland's roads since 1968.
