		Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss was released in 1992, and marked the first foray of Ultima into the world of 3D adventure gaming.
		Ultima Underworld is not always considered a canon Ultima, for while it certainly fits into the storyline of Ultima, it adds nothing to the overall plot arc.
		Ultima Underworld saw the Avatar wrongly accused of kidnapping the daughter of the lord of a new city in Britannia, built upon the Isle of the Avatar near the entrance to the Stygian Abyss.

	Serpent Isle - A Ultima Guide
		Underworld 2 was a ground breaking game, it was the first game to allow you to move around in a full 3D environment, you can climb ladders, fall down holes and look up and down, all this was done long before Quake.
		While Underworld 2 isn't a normal Ultima game in that many of the free form exploration and scripting isn't there, it is still one of the greatest games of all time, its wonderful to play and very addictive.
		Underworld 2 works ok in older versions of Windows, but not XP as far as I can tell so far.

		I'm a member of UDIC (Ultima Dragons Internet Chapter) a group of people who are supposed to be crazy about the Ultimas.
		I had felt that Ultimas should be similar to Wasteland (I guess I overlooked the fact that only the top-down view was being compared) where the meaning of life wasn't to kill monsters and get powerful weapons, but to interact more with the world.
		In the third Ultima, there is much more interaction with the people than the previous ones, and there is still the food problem, except that you can make money by creating and deleting characters.

		The ultima underworld engine always fascinated me. In many ways it were way ahead of its time giving the player non-orthogonal walls, sloped floors, bridges, water, 3d doors etc. etc.
		Until recently I believed that the Underworld engine was a so-called ray-casting engine like Wolfenstein, Doom and many other games from that early era of the first person shooter.
		In a raycasting engine the levels are basicly 2d maps and the player is then fooled into believing that the world is 3d by some scaling tricks.

		A true leader of the pack, Ultima Underworld used a fully 3D first-person perspective a full year before Wolfenstein 3D hit store shelves.
		Not only was it impressive visually for the time, but it was introduced some neat gameplay elements into the action-RPG arena, such as altering the speed and power of attacks by direct control and introducing 3D puzzle elements.
