Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny (1988) is the fifth part of the computer role-playing game series Ultima.
This game was the last Ultima developed on the Apple II; the limits of that system were increasingly becoming a hindrance to further technological advance, and thus all later parts were developed on PC systems.
Ultima V used a modified form of the Elder Futhark runic alphabet for some game text, adding some letters to make a complete one-to-one correspondence with the English alphabet (plus a few runes to represent some common two-letter combinations).

The reason I picked Ultima V rather than, say, IV or VI, was a combination of potential and need.
Ultima VI and later games in the series are too new to really need to be remade, at least in my opinion.
Ultima V, on the other hand, is old enough that most gamers today wouldn't be willing to play it…and therefore they miss out on a great gaming experience.

The Dungeon Siege engine perfectly accomodates the rich characters and story of Ultima V. The graphics are gorgeous, and the music - some of which is based on the original score, some of which is brand-new - is beautiful and orchestrally scored.
This the is v1.2 - and final - release of Ultima V: Lazarus.
This patch reactivates the "Blink" spell which is omitted from Ultima V: Lazarus v1.2 due to extreme bugginess.

This project is a faithful remake of Ultima V - Warriors of Destiny, released for the IBM PC in 1988 by Origin Systems, using The Elder Scrolls III - Morrowind engine.
Although later games had significant improvements, Ultima V embodies the very heart of what made this series one of the most respected in a genre of thousands.
While there are vast and obvious differences between the Ultima V engine and the Morrowind engine, I am making every attempt to preserve the original game in its entirety in this mod.

Since  there are only three classes in ULTIMA V (instead of eight, as in  ULTIMA IV), and you're automatically an Avatar (regardless of class), the only things that are minimally affected are the  intelligence, strength, and dexterity stats.

ULTIMA V Part 6 So you've destroyed the Shadowlords, completed all of the shrine  quests, gathered a group of powerful heroes, and recovered all of  Lord British's items (including the Sandalwood Box!).

Ultima V:Warriors of Destiny was released in 1987, first on the Apple II computer, then later released in 1988 for Commodore 64 and IBM PC.
Though Ultima may seem lost, PCShooter recently received word that a few enhancements to other Ultimas that are currently available, such as patches for enhancing the music and graphics.

Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny was one of very few games that gave particular attention to the Commodore 128.
Ultima V had a list of swear words that, when used in conversation, would result in the response 'With language like that how didst thou become an Avatar?!'.
Many of the people in Ultima 5 are constructed from other Origin employees or friends of Richard Garriot - one example is Christopher in West Britanny, modeled after Chris Roberts of Times of Lore and Wing Commander fame.

Ultima On-line is the current craze, and Ultima IX is due to be released later in 1998 (Has finally been released in late 1999 :)).
Ultima Runes of Virtue I was done for Gameboy by the good Dr. (His C64 translation of Ultima V was SO well done :)) and Runes of Virtue II was done for Gameboy and SNES.

 The Ultima Collectors Guide - Ultima V - Amiga
Ultima V for the Amiga was released about 2 years after the Apple Original.
The box design and content is identical with the IBM PC 'D' version but the game itself differs a bit.
While it is graphically very similar (apart from the big 'Ultima V' logo occupying the lower left half of the screen) it does not contain the original soundtrack like previous releases but just a single melody that plays in the background.

Richard Garriott's Ultima V (this is indeed a 5) is an ultra classic, albeit dated, RPG.
Contemporary and especially younger gamers would never be able to understand how grand such a game could feel, even though they would surely appreciate Ultima V: Lazarus.
Ultima V: Lazarus is a 500+Mb total conversion mod based on the Dungeon Siege engine, created by the (aptly named) Lazarus Team.

These samples (except Ultima III which does use a mockingboard A) are actually played on a phasor sound board, an enhanced mockingboard compatible card made by Applied Engineering.
Ultima V supported the phasor (or 2 mockingboards) for additional voices, while I believe the older Ultimas did not support more than 6 voices by default.
Ultima IV The ordering of the songs were determined by the order they play in the main view title screen.

Need Help: I wrote this FAQ as a service to all the Ultima players and I realize that many of the procedures with all the.gz files and everything may be difficult.
I can't get the music working in Ultima V. The music in Ultima V can only be heard on a 128.
ApplePC emulates a Mockingboard so you get the cool music in Ultima V. The next best one I have found is AppleWin which include 16 and 32 bit versions and runs on 486 compatible computers in a Windows enironment.
