Following their main-Marvel Universe foray with the Green Goblin figure, it was back to the Ultimate Marvel world for their next figure, Thor.
Marvel's "Ultimate" comics take the big iconic characters and strip them down to their essences, freeing the creators to tell any kind of story they want.
So it makes sense today that his Ultimate counterpart would be a war protestor, an oppononent of globalization and generally have a vested interest in protecting and aiding the common man. We may never get a Marvel Legend of him, but this Select version is good enough.

sure, the ultimate universe seems to be a world of teenage super heroes, but the punisher's apperance in ultimate marvel team-up was actually pretty awesome.
The ultimate books were made to allow new readers to jump on titles like Spider-Man and the X-Men without having to worry about all the backstory.
The only two titles I buy without fail are Punisher and Ultimate Spider-man. They are the only two that never seem to fail me and the only two that seem to really know the title characters and boil it down to what we like about them.

At first I was really bugged by the fact that his upper body has some decent articulation (neck, shoulders x 2 each, swivel forearms, wrists, and waist), while his lower half was nearly void of any (2 joints in each hip, swivel calves, and pivoting/hinged ankles).
