It was the 'Pyschodrama' period that saw Ultraviolence begin to emerge as the head of the burgeoning London cybergoth scene, an outrageous gathering of over-dressed, confrontational party animals who enjoyed the beat-driven good-time dance ethic, but preferred the twisted, perverted path that Ultraviolence chose to take them down...
Ultraviolence seemed to be the crossover reference point for those that enjoyed the lunacy of Napalm Death and Industrial Strength Records on the one hand, and the darkness of Nine Inch Nails and Laibach on the other.
Ultraviolence 2001 - and new album "Superpower" continues the tradition - anthemic, hard-driven techno track "Elektra" is sure to have the cyberscene dancing their extensions off, but nods in an as yet unexplored direction are beginning to emerge with the sheer major league accessibility of 'Separation'....
Ultraviolence is similar to the phenomenon of thrill killing, although unlike thrill killing, the taking of life is not required — and if it happens, it's incidental to the act of brutality.
3 years on from their impressive 'Killing God' album, Ultraviolence move ahead with that unmistakeable techno/cyber style, this time aiming to appeal to a slightly wider audience.
Despite that, there should be more than enough to get people dancing in the clubs, particularly 'Elektra' with its repititious, formulaic house-style lyrical euphoria and relentless, thumping dancefloor beats.
Despite certain deficiences, and whilst this is certainly not likely to be ranked as a classic Ultraviolence album, it should still please fans of Johnny V's unique style sufficiently enough, if only because he is undoubtadely unique and his music still retains that essential self-depreciating humour.
The flow is there, and is pretty much the reason I got this in the first place, but there's not enough variation, and there are so many better CD's out there.
Ultraviolence - Killing God - 47:37 - 1998
The one hit, or rather one beat, wonder Johnny Violent is back again under a new facade, for what reason I don't know, but that's neither here nor there.

Go ahead, mock me. Or try to explain me how ultraviolence plays into Morrison's big scheme of things.
I'll let you know if it comes back, but it was something to do with JAD and KM being interesting opposing waves based on their knowledge/ignorance of their own archetypes.
Blogger Adam Yoshida has posted an intriguing essay advocating a little ultraviolence in New York’s streets for the Republican National Convention this September.
All of this could easily work to transform the Republican convention from a staid event, barely covered by the media (as opposed to the coverage which is sure to be lavished upon the Democratic Convention) into mesmerizing television with a message.

Ultraviolence Delay(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Earlier this week the Phoenix Fire Dept stated that they would deny an SRL application for a permit to stage the Ultraviolence Show in Downtown Phoenix.
According to off the record accounts from a source within the Phoenix City Government sympathetic to SRL, the primary reason for this was a contact between the Phoenix Fire Marshalls office and the San Francisco Fire Marshalls office during which the SFFD advised the Phx FD against allowing the event to occur.
Please bear in mind that unlike a baseball game or a rock show SRL events have been known to inspire unwarranted fear in the minds of regulatory agencies which can lead to unpredictable issues such as this delay.
Starting out as the bedroom project of a frustrated teenager (actually the origin of many of the acts described on this site), Ultraviolence, the project of one Johnny Violent, got it's break when John Peel unexpectedly played his promo 12" on his Radio 1 show.
This secured him a deal with indie label Food, though he soon moved to Earache, a label infinitely better suited to his hardcore techno/industrial/gabber creations.
Little was heard from Ultraviolence for a number of years after this album, though Johnny later returned to stage to promote the 'Blown Away' compilation.

Below for the first time are the two first Ultraviolence singles in their entirety, the reason being I've had a few mails asking why they're not on the "Blown Away" comp (the answer being varying and tedious copyright issues) so it seemed only fair to give you the whole lot...FOR FREE!!!
This is a fun track that I've updated a couple of times for specific DJ slots - it's a that I'll carry on updating and there may never be a definitive version so the internet is its natural home.

Moloko & Ultra-Violence” is inspired by Modern Age Delirium, is a theatrical vision of this martyring world, where kings & queens fought for ten decades, for the gods they made; is is colder, harder, faster & darker than everything you listen before.
Will take you longer than the two minutes it took you reading this review though, because this EP gives you over 25 minutes material!
