Topic: Ultraviolet (film)

Ultraviolet (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The hero of the film is Violet Song jat Shariff (Milla Jovovich), a young woman who was infected with hemophagia, in the process losing both her husband and her unborn child.
The film was released in North America on March 3, 2006, with Screen Gems deciding not to screen the film for critics.
Ideas in the film which have previously appeared in videogames include clothing that changes color and the idea of a pocket universe (here called "flat space technology") as the explanation of where weapons and ammunition are stored by characters who do not seem to be carrying them.

 UGO.com Film/TV - Ultraviolet Headquarters
Set in the late 21st century, Ultraviolet tells the story of a subculture of humans who have been genetically modified by a vampire-like disease called Hemophagia, giving them enhanced speed, incredible stamina and acute intelligence.
As they are set apart from "normal" and "healthy" humans, the world is pushed to the brink of worldwide civil war aimed at the destruction of the "diseased" population.
In the middle of this is an infected woman, Ultraviolet (Milla Jovovich), who finds herself marked for death by the human government.

 Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet takes place in the future where a blood disease has turned half of the human race into blood-sucking vampires.
Leading the pack of vamps is Ultraviolet, who is sent to intercept a package from the baddie humans that holds the key to an object that could possibly wipe out their kind.
She does have a scene near the end of the film where she cries very convincingly, but maybe it dawned on her that she is starring in a piece of junk and wept out of frustration.

Reflected Ultraviolet Photography - Films & processing
Modern films with flat, tabular-grained silver halide crystals near the surface of the emulsion, have a natural advantage therefore in recording ultraviolet.
A "high speed" film was indicated, as five or six stops more exposure were typically required over the visible equivalent, and a relatively small aperture was required to achieve adequate depth-of-field in patient photography.
ISO film speeds are not necessarily a good indicator of ultraviolet sensitivity; previous workers had reported that slow "non-colour" sensitive films, such as Ilford's N531 (0.1 ISO), were just as sensitive to ultraviolet as panchromatic films of 400 ISO (Arnold et al., 1971).

 Reflected Ultraviolet Photography - Colour
There is no significant advantage to using colour film for pure reflected ultraviolet work because only the blue layer of the tri-colour pack will be exposed by the ultraviolet (the integral yellow filter effectively preventing exposure of the red and green layers).
This is effectively a 'false colour' record with ultraviolet radiation exposing the blue layer and far red radiation exposing the red sensitive layer of the film.
No technical details are available for their system but the results are basically reflected ultraviolet recording in the blue layer with the usual red 'leakage' of the UV transmission filter slightly affecting the red layer of a standard tri-pack colour emulsion.

This film is not a simple merger of the aforementioned flicks, they where rammed together to create this one.
The theatrical version of the film was apparently heavily cut to bring it down from the dreaded ‘R’ to a more family friendly PG-13.
With this film the conflict between the resistance and the government is not played for emotional impact.

 Ultraviolet (2006): Reviews
For this violent yet gore-free film, clearly designed for horny teenaged video game wizards, writer-director Kurt Wimmer stages a succession of fight sequences that pit V against helmeted thugs who appear to have raided the Star Wars storm trooper costume closet.
A film to be enjoyed only by science-fiction movie completists and middle school boys with extreme cases of attention deficit disorder.

Everything that made Equilibrium a great film, the excellent story, which seemed to be a tip of the hat to such literary works like 1984 and Farenheit 451, and the impressive acting was greatly lacking in Ultraviolet.
Ultraviolet seemed to have a bigger budget and this appears to have greatly hurt the film.
I am opposed to films that portray gratuitious violence against children, but if it means ending my misery of sitting through the remaining hour of this movie, I say waste the little shit.

Slant Magazine - Film Review: Ultraviolet
Shot with the same HD cameras used for George Lucas's final two Star Wars prequels presumably because they afford greater (and more efficient) post-production image manipulation, the director matches the rubbery plasticity of his hyper-saturated palette by airbrushing faces to the point of unnatural smoothness, giving all involved an artificial mannequin appearance.
Of course, as a model herself, Jovovich is a star custom-made for Ultraviolet's anime-influenced eye candy aesthetic, and the cinematographic salivating over the sword-wielding babe's flat midriff and flawless ass confirm her status as the embodiment of every 13-year-old fanboy's wet dream.
In a typically hectic sequence, Jovovich's hottie speeds a motorcycle through a futuristic urban downtown while being chased by a helicopter, the buildings, vehicles, and explosions all exhibiting a polygonal angularity that deliberately recalls the look of pre-rendered videogame graphics.

Ultraviolet and Vacuum Ultraviolet Radiation Titles
Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) radiation of wavelengths between 115 and 200 nm produced by the sun in the space environment can cause degradation to polymer films producing changes in optical, mechanical, and chemical properties.
These effects are particularly important for thin polymer films being considered for ultra-lightweight space structures, because, for most polymers, VUV radiation is absorbed in a thin surface layer.
Changes in solar absorptance were observed for some materials, and additionally, significant changes in spectral reflectance were observed in the ultraviolet to visible wavelength region for all polyimide materials tested.

Ultraviolet (2006) - Channel 4 Film review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Like Kurt Wimmer's previous film, Equilibrium, Ultraviolet is a daft science-fiction action film that can be blamed on the legacy of the Wachowski brothers.
Both Equilibrium and Ultraviolet indulge extensively in the sort of imagery channelled from anime into western live action films by The Matrix, specifically gravity-defying fights involving one versus many; they also feature bizarre quasi-religious organisations.
In lieu of an actual plot, Wimmer has given us a film that consists of Violet moving from one blood bath to another, magicking swords and guns out of her wrists and dispatching dozens of guards, while wearing little more than a crop top and leggings, which snazzily change colour.

"Ultraviolet" is set in the late 21st century, when a mysterious genetic mutation has created a subcommunity of super smart, super strong super people -- causing a panicky government to try to eradicate them all.
Writer-director Kurt Wimmer envisioned "Ultraviolet" as an updated comic-book twist on John Cassavetes' "Gloria" (1980), a mob tale about a former mobster's girlfriend on the run protecting a young boy (remade in 1999 with Sharon Stone).
The film deals with a futuristic society at odds with genetically enhanced members and the war that results between the various factions.

Yup, she's on a rampage, hell it'd be a dull movie if she overcame her issues and took up knitting.
While Aeon showed how empty a film like this can be, Ultraviolet shows how attention to detail makes the tired old concept of "ultimate assasin turns on their maker and seeks revenge" can actually create something unique, fresh and exciting.
The acting is the same, Oscars won't be won, but essentially all that is needed are a few snarls and some tension, which Milla Jovovich provides, despite fully expecting "Umbrella corp" to be lurking around the corner, due to similarties between this and the Resident Evil movies.

hello, my name is Violet.' Sony Screem Gems has released the first movie trailer for the upcoming Kurt Wimmer film, Ultraviolet, today and it looks pretty damn Kurt Wimmer-ish; which is a great thing.
Having Equilibrium as one of my favorite films definitely aids in my appreciation of Ultraviolet and I especially dig how William Fichtner and the little boy Cameron Bright-- both from Equilibrium -- have returned for the film.
Judging by the trailer for Ultraviolet it definitely looks like Wimmer is beginning to hone his craft and has added some much more advanced cinematography and shots than we had seen in Equilibrium.
