The new Ulverston Union workhouse was built at the north-west of the town on the west side of Stanley Street, off the Gill, at a cost of £5,800.
Ulverston's establishment later became known as Ulverston Workhouse Stanley Hospital, then after the closure and demolition of the Ulverston Hospital on Newton Street in 1971, it adopted the name Ulverston Hospital.
