Clerke had a vested interest in Ulverstone - owning large areas of land here and having full intention of retiring to the area in the near future, it is possible that he sent up a team of his employees, with Abraham as "Building Overseer", to do the construction work for this church.
The Ratepayers of Ulverstone seeing this as a major asset, on Monday 26th April, 1897, at the Annual Meeting of Electors, held at the Ulverstone Town Hall, he was elected to the Ulverstone Town Board.
On its return to Ulverstone it was launched on October 4th when Miss Geraldine Hallowes pulled the trigger which released the little vessel, at the same time breaking the time-honoured bottle of liquor, and naming her the "Venture".
