Dormammu is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe.
His sister, Umar, is more human in appearance, though her head also bears a mantle of flames.
However, Dormammu and Umar continue to further their arcane schemes and menace both the Dark Dimension and the Earth.

At present, with Dormammu apparently destroyed, and Umar deposed and in suspended animation, the flames of regency are borne by Dormammu's niece Clea, the new ruler of the Dark Dimension.

Green Brain Comics is hands-down my favorite Michigan comic store.  Katie and Dan Merritt are dedicated to expanding the audience for independent and alternative comics through their shop, and important comics organizations like CBLDF and Friends of Lulu.
The Comic Arts Festival just up the street from their Dearborn shop.  A small press and self-published showcase, this convention is welcome news to midwest comic fans.  Mark Saturday, October 29th on your calendar.
Will Eisner was the first comic book 'auteur' i discovered.  He could write AND draw, so The Spirit represented a relatively uncompromised vision.  This meant a great deal in the 70's and 80's, when i wasn't a kid anymore and the bloom was off the Silver Age rose.

I haven't read Hellblazer much in the past decade, but what I remember most about the early adventures of John Constantine were (a) his frequent conversations and complicated pacts with the various demilords of Heaven and Hell, and (b) the absurdly short life-spans among his worldwide network of demonologists, clairvoyants, freaks, and hangers-on.
In comic film news, Halle Berry drops out of X3, because, as her agent puts it, Berry's "an Oscar winner and she wants roles that test her." Yeah, like Catwoman.
The curse of any first comic movie is the origin stuff (although in Spiderman at least, that turned out to be the best part of the film), and here I thought all of the backstory and character introductions took just a little too long.

When Dormammu was defeated by Strange, Umar escaped from the pocket dimension where she had been exiled by her brother and took his position as ruler of the Dark Dimension.

They sought sanctuary from Olnar, the wizard-king of the Dark Dimension, a small pocket cosmos in a dimension other than Earth's, in which the laws of reality are different from those in the Earth dimension.

 Defenders #2 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Things go from bad to worse for Strange and his unlikely allies, and Umar sets her sights on a new lover.
Now, admittedly, in their previous DC runs, Giffen and DeMatteis loved filling pages with amusing dialogue, leaving the plot to fend for itself, and I loved every minute of it because it was hilarious.
Umar’s insistence that Dormammu include her in his speeches is funny, and I like any story that involves beings on the level of Eternity, so at least the issue ends on an upswing.

The more I've read comics over the years the more I've learned that if you go into to great a detail with time-jumping and continuum effects, and the more you try and spell out possibilities, the more the writer just tends to dig themselves a hole rather than help themselves out.
I know there are a lot of comic book movies being made these days, but there are plenty more properties that deserve the silver screen treatment.

Anyway...instead of the past several issues' predilection for prolonging the years-in-the-making plotline without recaps, this issue reveals the origin of the Drummer, a former nameless orphan servant whom Planetary rescued from the Four as a wee lad.
Unfortunately, as outlined in the editorial page this issue, retailer orders for the first three issues of this planned four-issue miniseries were so pitiful that the whole thing was scrapped, with #1 released here as a mere one-shot.
Rather than hook up with one of today's standard Christian comic book companies (most of whose artists appear to have been big Rob Liefeld fans before dedicating their lives to Christ), Miller decided to form his own company and take control of his career.

As for the nominations, personally I find it hard to say a certain comic deserves to be nominated more than another, as I don't think there's a single catergory that I've read every nomination.
I can't say that a comic deserves to be nominated over a bunch of other comics that I have never read as I have no idea how good or bad they are.
I know he has a family to support and comics don't earn a fellow much of a living but I'd LOVE to see Kyle Baker produce something even half as quality as Saturn and Cowboy Wally.

Whenever the great Comics Pimp James Sime gets a comics pro into his San Francisco, CA Isotope comic shop to do a signing, he gets them to draw something on a toilet seat, and then he puts the toilet seat up on the wall.
To anyone who thinks that it's a bad thing that comic book creators had/have been shackled with essentially being required to work in the superhero genre for so long (and anyone should think that): the shackles of working on five-page-stories-with-trick-endings were much heavier.
There's a part of me that feels like comics needed to shed those tropes to reach a certain degree of sophistication, and now that that level's been reached with the right hands and the right minds behind it, these tools could be dusted off and reintroduced into the mainstream.

 UGO's This Week In Comics: Reviews for July 21, 2005
Every week, I go to the comic book store (Comics Ink at Overland and Braddock in Culver City, CA...hey, Steve and Jason!) and grab a lot of comics.
I sort these into two piles -- the "Buy" pile (things I intend to spend money on, most often a small pile) and the "Read" pile (often huge, including lots of stuff I don't actually like but wanna stay well-informed about).
And Umar would fit in well on the set of Charmed with her goth styled smoothness.
