		Ummagumma is a double album consisting of one studio disc which was their creation from highly experimental techniques, and one live disc.
		Ummagumma is a product and a folly of its own times.
		The album has become condemned by the band, but the fans see it for what it is - a wholly unsuccessful attempt to breach a different area of the music world, and with this album they were never further away from the mainstream.

		Leafing through the special booklet of my 25th anniversary edition, I found the end of the image, the tiny speck in the mirror where the fuzzy original image resided.
		Ummagumma's got to be my favorite--it's one of the first electronic drug records, playing around with that all-important '90s tool, the tape loop--the most "experimental" album I've ever heard, second only to the Orb's Pomme Fritz.

		My first thought was then to burn a copy of Ummagumma for myself, just including those songs at the end of the album.
		I had plenty of material (of different quality) to choose from, for 1969 was probably their most prolific year.
		The live set isn't a gathering of alternate takes of what was originally on the live set of Ummagumma, but more what it would have sounded like if the band had once played (my) Ummagumma live.

		The idea of this double album was to wrap up their old repertoire with a live album of stage favourites, while launching their re-invented selves with a second studio album in which each of the four members would contribute a quarter in the form of solo performances or constructions.
		The plan rather backfired as the Live Album proved so popular that the band were obliged to continue to play them in their sets thereafter.
