 Unadilla
The first Unadilla, a screw gunboat, was laid down at New York City by John Englis and the Novelty Iron Works in the late spring of 1861; launched on 17 August; and commissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 30 September, Lt. Napoleon Collins in command.
Unadilla and Pembina next proceeded to St. Helena Sound, S.C., on 24 November to reconnoiter Confederate positions at Hunting Island, Otter Island, and at the mouths of the Morgan and Coosaw rivers.
Unadilla delivered the schooner's two passengers to the authorities and sent the vessel north to the New York prize court; then on 20 and 21 May, she joined Pembina, Ottawa, and the surveying steamer Bibb in Stono Inlet, S.C., where the Union flotilla captured six armed Confederates.

"Unadilla" is an Iroquois Indian word meaning "a place of meeting." William Saunders built the first house, which was on the site now occupied by Lempka Recycling.
The restoration of Unadilla during the next two years were a tribute to the unity of the community.
Unadilla's population remained constant until the end of World War II when the town again began to grow.

Unadilla was decommissioned at the New York Navy Yard on 4 May 1866 but was recommissioned on 20 December 1866 for duty with Rear Admiral Henry H. Bell's Asiatic Squadron in 1867, primarily for use in the suppression of Chinese pirates.
Unadilla, together with Aroostook, Maumee and assorted small gunboats of other nations, was credited with stopping most of the pirate depredations by 1868.

Unadilla Township sought federal grants totaling $455,000 in 1995 for hiring and equipping police officers, but decided against taking all of the money.
Unadilla Township Supervisor Judy Donohue Williams says problems began to arise for the township when administrators for the COPS program contacted township officials in 1998 and told them they hadn't spent all of their approved grant money and should draw down the account.
However, in Unadilla Township's case, the issue was complicated because the township had applied for a grant, then withdrew the application once the grant was awarded.

The 14,000-square-foot elementary school at 126 Webb in the unincorporated village of Gregory was built in the 1950s and houses approximately 150 students in kindergarten and the school district’s Head Start preschool program.
The Unadilla Township Fire Department will take over the police offices in downtown Gregory after the move into the school is complete.

Commissioned in September 1861 under the command of Lieutenant Napoleon Collins, she participated in the capture of Port Royal, South Carolina, in early November.

Even though Carmichael is seemingly invincible so far, the Unadilla track was considered his weak point.
The combination of the relatively high speed sections and the roughness and the rocks are not best suited to his style.

  Apparently Unadilla Forks and its’ people made a lasting impression on Mildred and she was in the process of putting her memories together when she passed away on Christmas Eve 1979.
Quoting again from pages 294-295 of the same 1878 book, “The village of Unadilla Forks is located on the Unadilla river, in the western part, north of the center, and contains two churches, Baptist and Free Baptist, besides the following business interests:  general stores, H. Babcock, Rogers and Dye, Humphrey and Spicer; furniture, etc. T.
Those were the buildings along the East Branch of the Unadilla that are documented with photos and maps (1868 and 1903).
