Unbreakable explores the events that surround its characters in a slow-paced manner which toys with the viewer by delivering information conservatively.
While Unbreakable relies on carefully stylized depictions to construct its characters' subjective worlds and realities, the film's plot evolves from a simplistic, economic narration of identifiable and realistic events.
All in all, Unbreakable is a film which successfully creates a playful relationship with the viewer, and which establishes the "unbreakable" quality of its mysterious premise as a measure for its own effective narrative strategy.

The dark thriller Unbreakable partners Howard with writer/director M. Night Shyamalan and actor Bruce Willis in an attempt to recapture the magic of The Sixth Sense.
For Unbreakable, though, Howard was seemingly allowed a broader range of instrumentation and volume; in other words, his score for this film is a more ambitious effort that stands better on its feet while apart from the film.

In Unbreakable, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan reunites with Sixth Sense star Bruce Willis, comes up with another story of everyday folk baffled by the supernatural (or at least unknown-to-science) and returns to his home town, presenting Philadelphia as a wintry haunt of the bizarre yet transcendent.
'Unbreakable' is an excellent film because it has a very specific mix of ingredients: Willis' character is reticent about his feelings and his acting is appropriately understated.
The Unbreakable is an admirable piece of cinema -- not because of its entertainment value (which, admittedly isn't spectacularly high), but because of the idea that is at the heart of it.

Unbreakable   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Unbreakable shares a number of similarities with The Sixth Sense that suggests the emergence of a distinctive style belonging to Shyamalan, not the least of which is an angst-ridden leading man portrayed by Bruce Willis.
In Unbreakable, Willis plays David Dunn, a middle-aged security guard whose deep-rooted identity crisis is causing a rift between himself and his wife and young son, along with a continual vague sadness and dissatisfaction with life in general.
He seems to favor dark shots, blues and grays, and this is especially apt in Unbreakable - particularly when a sudden primary color will appear, giving an overall scene the sense of the comic book theme that the story embraces.

Viewed in that context, this is a tantalizing and audaciously low-key thriller, with a plot that twists in several intriguing and unexpected directions.
While just as assured as that earlier, phenomenal hit, Unbreakable is the work of a filmmaker whose skill exceeds his maturity, its confident style serving a story that borders on juvenile.
"Unbreakable," however, is entirely dependent on the relationship between Dunn and Price, as Shyamalan uses the vastly different circumstances of the two men to explore the question of what constitutes a hero.

 Unbreakable : film review
Unbreakable is the new other-worldly thriller from M Night Shyamalan, the writer/director wunderkind of 1999's The Sixth Sense.
For the first two-thirds of the film, the viewer is drawn into what is going to happen to these characters, wondering what is going to happen and where will it all ends up.
With Unbreakable, M Night Shyamalan tried to get lightning to strike twice by attempting to make a similar movie, only without any of the heart or originality of his surprise 1999 hit.

Radio Free Movie Review: Unbreakable (2000)
While I won't spell out exactly what happened so as not to spoil it for those of you who still actually want to see it, I will say that the conclusion is utterly foolish, and places way too much credence in the fiction of comic books.
But whereas that ending was clever and calculated, the ending of Unbreakable tries merely to shock on the most tired and cliche level--we're talking Wild Things-type bad.
Although many people will undoubtedly be disappointed by the uninspired twist at the end of Unbreakable's journey, there's still a proverbial silver lining to this dark cloud: Shyamalan is a creative enough director and screenwriter that he'll no doubt make a good number of more accomplished films in the future...

Qwipster's Movie Reviews - Review: Unbreakable
However, UNBREAKABLE's ending is truer to the spirit and plot of the film and not merely a ploy to fool the audience like that of it's predecessor.
There's quite a bit of disbelief to suspend, such as Willis never realizing he's never been sick or injured in his life at 40, or that when he realizes it, it takes weeks when it should take mere seconds for an attempt to be made to disprove Elijah's theories.
However, UNBREAKABLE has just enough originality and profundity to make it a deep and unique film that, while it may forever be overshadowed by THE SIXTH SENSE, should solidify Shyamalan's reputation as one of the best auteurs working in Hollywood in the last five years.
