The Unbreakable Vow is a voluntary agreement made between two or more wizards or witches in the Harry Potter series of novels by J.
It is always performed with a witness on hand (called a Bonder), holding their wand on the agreeing persons' linked hands to bind them with a tongue of flame.
Professor Severus Snape, the once Potions master and later Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, takes the Unbreakable Vow while at Spinner's End to prove his sincerity to Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

I can't remember where I read this theory, but someone surmised that Snape may have made an Unbreakable Vow to protect Harry, which is why Dumbledore was certain of his loyalty and the reason he protected the boy wizard.
Apparently, Snape vowed to kill Dumbledore and protect her teenaged son Draco if he were unable to do it.
The idea of Snape making an unbreakable vow to protect Harry is fascinating, especially given his protection of Harry during the Quidditch match in his first year.

Is seems plausible, but again you have to factor in how DD knew that bella and cissy were going to visit snape that night, and how he would know that they would ask for an unbreakable vow.
Snape vowed to protect Draco and finish the deed in case Draco failed, and he did.

This could mean many things and one of the things it could mean is that Snape told Dumbledore that he claimed to have made an unbreakable vow to gain Draco’s trust but that of course he didn’t actual do it.
His silence on the vow is strange if he believed about the vow, especially since he doesn’t want that Harry worries about it.
My last comment is that since (in my opinion) he was aware of the Vow, at least from the point on that Harry told him, it makes perfect sense to kind of hush things up and pretend that he is not discomforted by the news.

Using the Unbreakable Vow normally means the best outcome is a promise kept and all parties involved in making the Vow still breathing.
So he would try to kill Harry, but as soon as he did the Unbreakable Vow would be called into effect and Voldemort would also die.
That's just another example, and not necessarily the way anything would have to happen if the Unbreakable Vow is used to kill Voldemort.

I agree with Coura Stone, I think after Snape overheard the part of the prophecy and went and told LV, he didn't know which child LV would be going after either Harry or Neville, which incidentially are the two he gives the hardest time to at Hogwarts.
So what I think happened is that he went to DD after the attack on the Potters, felt bad (showed a remorse) and DD believed and had him do an Unbreakable Vow with him regarding helping Harry and killing DD if there should ever come a time.

Snape also had the Unbreakable Vow to deal with - if he had broken it he would have died and then one of the other Death Eaters would have killed Dumbledore anyway and there would have been no one to make sure Harry didn't get killed when they were running away.
I didn't think the mechanics of the Unbreakable Vow were very clearly explained.
Hence, Snape was under no obligation under the unbreakable vow to help him kill Dumbledore earlier in the year (though he did offer) since there was always going to be another opportunity.

If Snape told Dumbledore, Dumbledore wouldn't want Snape to have to die by breaking the vow, nor would he want Draco to kill him and be truly on Voldemort's side.
He had no choice but to do the Unbreakable Vow or else he probably would have been AKed.
And if Dumbledore knew Snape’s Unbreakable Vow, then it would stand to reason that Snape just might have to do the deed.

Fred and George were both present when they tried to trick five-year-old Ron into making the Unbreakable Vow, as mentioned on page 326 in the American hardback edition of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, pretty much ruling out the possibility that Dumbledore himself performed the spell.
Anyway, my point of this article is that Snape and Dumbledore may have had an Unbreakable Vow binding them.

In my theory, Dumbledore knew he was under the Unbreakable Vow, regardless of whether Snape told him or not (Snape might not of been able to tell him - might've been something about the magic behind the Vow).
Here's a though: If the unbreakable vow is not over, and malfoy turns on the good side, he could make himself a mission to aid harry in vanquishing voldemort.
Dumbledore knew about the unbreakable vow as many have said already, however what hasnt been mention the fact Dumbledore knew he was already dying.

Besides, he did make the "unbreakable vow" that he would do anything to protect Draco while he made way for Death Eaters to enter the school, and promised to carry out the deed himself if anything happened to Draco (if I remember correctly, I don't have the book in front of me).
agreeable obviously, with the overheard conversation by hagrid (knowing the whole book is build on -wrongly- overheard conversation) and the unbreakable vow does not bind snape "not to tell" it was only to protect, help and finish the job for draco..
I don't think that it was an unbreakable vow though.

It is very likely that they spoke about Severus' Unbreakable Vow.
We learnt during the book that if Severus broke his Unbreakable Vow, he would die as well.
But it was highly possible that if both Draco and Severus did not kill Dumbledore one of the Death Eaters would have done the job.

I would also like to add, the Unbreakable Vow, from what we know, doesn't have a time limit.
Therefore, the unbreakable vow Snape made to fulfill Draco's task if Draco could not, was also a binding promise to kill Dumbledore if necessary.

If they say "Unbreakable", > whether or not it's true, the fact that everyone knows it's a red > rag makes me and probably ever other oracle customer very happy > because we all think they think they know what they're doing.

Dumbledore's insistance all these years that Snape is to be trusted has to have a good reason behind it.
So he had Snape go along- as usual- with it and even make the Unbreakable Vow because D knew that he wouldn't really be killed.
Snape would not be breaking his vow because he'd actually make the Avada Kedavra curse and "kill" D. I think it was Snape who made the vow and Snape at the end.
