Underoath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Underoath have enjoyed commercial success in recent years behind the sales of their last two albums (2004's They're Only Chasing Safety and 2006's Define the Great Line) and touring on the Vans Warped Tour.
On these first albums, Underoath's sound was much different from its sound when it achieved wide popularity a few years later, partly due to the fact that there are no original members left in Underoath except for drummer Aaron Gillespie.
Rumors that the band had actually left because NOFX frontman Michael "Fat Mike" Burkett was making fun of Underoath and their religious beliefs onstage were debunked when Burkett told PunkNews.org in a statement of his own that Underoath's claim of needing a break was indeed true.

 Fallenempire2000 reviews Underoath
The Changing of Times saw Underoath break away from their more traditional metalcore tendencies and move into a more updated sound which still is based in metal but draws a lot of influence from emo.
That’s what Underoath has done here, taken the best elements from emo, the melodic choruses, the emotional connection, the deeply personal lyrics, and incorporated them into their sound to bring the music to another level.
Underoath are proof that metal bands can convey complex human emotion without sounding fruity and without losing what it is that made them metal in the first place.

Underoath still is metal-tastic, they still have Dallas with vocals, so enjoy it while you can cause soon, buh-bye Dallas, bye metal, but then they get an even better sound and even better singer, Spencer.
This was their last CD with Dallas on vocals and their last CD to be considered "old Underoath." The riffs are heavy as hell but still melodic, and the keyboards add a really creepy feel to the music.
UnderOath has a new album coming out on the 6th of June, and I thought this was the one.

underOATH - Define the Great Line Review - sputnikmusic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
In the space between the first release and Define the Great Line, Underoath have changed their style so enormously with each consecutive release that one has to ponder whether the band who released Cries of the Past and They're Only Chasing Safety should be considered as the same band.
Like their labelmates Norma Jean, Underoath throw a lot of dissonant riffs into their very heavy sound on this record and this dissonance is well exemplified on "In Regards to Myself".
For fans of Underoath at their earliest, this record may still be somewhat of a disappointment.

After the departure of original front-man Dallas Taylor, the members of Underoath pretty much figured that they had met their fate-- until Spencer Chamberlain stepped (or is it ‘swooped’?) in with his dying-rodent vocals and a presence that far exceeds his tiny build.
Now, it would be so incredibly easy to write off Underoath as just another obnoxious screamo, hardcore, blow-your-brains-out-with-our-anger band, but take a look at their convictions and an even harder look at their lyrics.
Craziness set aside, the DVD also includes interviews, random trivia (drummer Aaron Gillespie is the only original member of Underoath still with the band today) and the band giving “Glory to God” at their shows.

Underoath keyboardist Chris Dudley is standing outside the band's Los Angeles hotel room, where his bandmates are going over some last-minute details with their manager concerning Define the Great Line, their forthcoming third album.
Dudley said the disc exemplifies "the best that Underoath can do." And the band owes a huge debt, he said, to Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz (All That Remains, Unearth), who co-produced the album with Matt Goldman (As Cities Burn, Copeland), a founding member of the Blue Man Group.
This summer, Underoath plan to promote the new tracks as one of the headliners on the Warped Tour.

Still, fans of the previously metal-driven band may be in for a shock as catchy choruses and hooks dominate this release.

They are a christian band, and with songs like 'some will seek forgiveness others escape' they really are different from conventional emo bands who pretty much sound the same (and alot of the time a bit whiney) they are so inspiring and this is from sumone who isnt religious at all.
If you're looking for sumthing different, for a band who dont always go on about killing people/themselves but just about the way they perceive things, then go for underoath as they are amazing and heavy at the same time, you can just feel their passion, which is rare in my books.

The first and most obvious clue that indicates a break with the original CCM soft-pop sound is frontman Spencer Chamberlain's throat-shredding vocal style.
The remaining members of Underoath deal in powerfully direct emo-core, replete with dissonant guitar chords, hyper-speed drumming, and complex rhythmic patterns.
That said, the intensity with which Underoath imbues its music is a perfect reflection of the unwavering commitment necessary for an active faith.

This version however you're only getting 1 new song(which if you were like me, you could've gotten for $5 on a smart punk comp at Warped tour 04, but probably didn't) 3 mis-titled demo songs and a very un-informative dvd with horrible live footage(it's all montages).
The only reason anyone would buy this is if they are looking for a good underoath live DVD(they are amazing live) or if they want to drool over Aaron Gillespe like the 14 year old teeny boppers they are(who are most likely the people who will vote this review not helpful).
Underoath have taken their metalcore roots and extracted the energy and intensity as well as the heaviness, but added a much more poppy sound, which can be predictable, but is certainly welcomed when performed at this tier.
