    Scarface is a landmark film and an undisputed leader in the gangster genre.
There does remain a degree of film grain throughout which is unavoidable from the twenty year-old source elements, and so restricting the image from ever becoming razor sharp, however there is a pleasing amount of detail to the image that belies its age, particularly the foreground images.
When he resurfaced later with the final draft script for Scarface, it was an absolute corker, managing to both draw on all of the successful elements that appealed from the original film, whilst also weaving a convincing and epic saga of the rise and fall of a new breed of super-wealthy gangster drug lord.

The lush and vibrant production design of the film and the colorful costumes are one of the film’s undisputed highlights and the DVD does full justice to these elements by bringing them to life on your television screen in a faithfulness and richness that you have never seen before.
Running for two hours, this film, called "Cleopatra: The Film That Changed Hollywood", is in incredibly diligent and detailed look at the film, its origins and the impact it has had on its participants and Hollywood as a whole.
Considering that the film was originally budgeted as a 2 million dollar production that ended up being the most expensive movie production to date, I am sure it is easy to see that a lot must have been going on.

That the film is good, rather than great, is presumably because the script isn't by Richard Curtis, the undisputed master of the genre.
The film does suffer from the lack of Curtis's sparkling dialogue, but is nonetheless a thoroughly enjoyable rom-com.
