He is perplexed why metal isn’t called just that and doesn’t believe Unearth needs a suffix attached when describing his band’s heavy hitting, thrashy approach, which he insists is just metal.
Unearth also realizes that sometimes looking toward the future means tapping the past for ideas.
But for everyone in Unearth, this is the job to have, and Phipps is unequivocal about the fact that just being able to do Unearth full time is a dream come true.

 Metal Blade Records - Online
To help Unearth achieve the kind of raw ferocity they create in concert the band worked closely with producer Terry Date, who has previously worked with Pantera, Deftones and Soundgarden.
Unearth titled the album III: In The Eyes of Fire because they thought the name best reflected the challenges and obstacles that human beings confront on a daily basis.
In the end III: In the Eyes of Fire is both a testament to Unearth’s endurance and a showcase of their immeasurable skill.

Unearth vocalist Trevor Phipps was there taking in his favorite band.
I got the sense that if Unearth was ever going to make it, it was going to be on its own diabolical terms.
The fact that Unearth has come this far says there are a lot of smart folks out there who want to hear real metal with an unfiltered voice.

Blistering.com Review: Unearth - The Oncoming Storm
While metalcore seems to be the current genre of choice for most these days (Some would go as far as to claim it’s the new nu-metal movement!), Unearth are certainly one of the better acts to have emerged into the big league in recent times.
The title track from Unearth’s last EPEndless’ has been given the re-recorded treatment, and while purists will insist that it’s inferior to the original, I tend to favour the notion that it actually ties in nicely with the sound that makes up the bulk of the new album, and is a worthy inclusion here.
While The Oncoming Storm is nothing revolutionary within the metalcore scene, it does manage to propel Unearth up to the same level of excellence as fellow leading acts such Shadows Fall, God Forbid, Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed.

Unearth's sound still comes up short in the variety and uniqueness departments, but it is always filled to the brim with pulsing, unsurpassable energy.
I'm guessing Unearth will have their last few, lingering imperfections completely scrubbed out in time for the release of their next, fourth-full length record, which will be a truly amazing and epic masterpiece.
Unearth steps every aspect of their songwriting up on this one, it's faster, tighter, more technical, and way more brutal than anything in their repetior to date.

 Unearth
Very few bands have mastered the balance of hardcore with metal like Unearth, and to watch them deliver these complicated melodies and rhythms live is a testament to the musical artistry that sets them apart from bands on the forefront of both hardcore and metal scenes.
Unearth is comprised of one of the most talented groups of musicians I've ever heard, and I know that Unearth is more than capable of producing something much better than this, and I'm disappointed that they haven't.
After all my whining and complaining about how Unearth isn't the same as they used to be, and how they're a lot more metal now than hardcore, you do have to realize that this is inevitably a metal album.

Unearth chose producer Terry Date (Pantera, Deftones) to helm the project — a decision made over some of Susi's mother's home cooking.

The Oncoming Storm - Unearth - Music Reviews
If Unearth wanted to cover a classic Dean Martin hit, the logical choice would be 1960's "Ain't That a Kick in the Head" -- not because The Oncoming Storm sounds anything at all like the late Rat Pack crooner, but because Unearth does, in fact, feel like a kick in the head.
Some of Unearth's riffing hints at thrash metal, but The Oncoming Storm is a metalcore disc first and foremost -- and most of the bands that were part of thrash in the '80s and early '90s (Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Anthrax, among others) were not as harsh as Unearth.
And the answer is that for Unearth and other metalcore units, The Oncoming Storm is all about the thrill of pure, raw exhilaration as well as emotional catharsis; Phipps' nonstop screaming is very cathartic for Unearth and their fans in the mosh pit.

Reaffirming its dominance, III: In The Eyes of Fire is an impressive affirmation from Unearth who deserve kudos as the premier no-frills metalcore act.
Song titles and lyrics may seem heavy-handed at times, but as effectively as Unearth can construct and consistently deliver, a bit of the over the top mystique is certainly warranted.
Not straying from the formula that made The Oncoming Storm such a breakout album in 2004, Unearth refused to fall into the all-too-common trap of trying to reproduce success.
