Unefon is being allowed to reduce, and restructure its existing US$368 million loan, in exchange for dropping a US$900 million legal action against Nortel Networks over allegedly failing to deliver equipment.
Unefon has also agreed to make annual purchases of Nortel equipment anticipated to be in the region of US$40 million per year, but with a guaranteed minimum of at least US$20 million.
Unefon's major shareholders are the Saba family and the TV Azteca group owned by Salinas.

In a statement, the Spanish television producer TV Azteca SA de CV said it is delaying the spin off of its 46.5 pct stake in Unefon as a result of the lawsuit to give Unefon time to resolve the dispute with Nortel.
In turn, Nortel responded with a notice of default to Unefon and warned that a spin off would be interpreted as a change in the company's control, equivalent to an additional default.
Last Monday, Unefon filed a lawsuit for 900 mln usd against Nortel alleging that the telecom equipment supplier has failed in its obligation to syndicate portions of Unefon's indebtedness, which would have triggered availability to Unefon of additional financing under its agreement with Nortel.
