Wuluwaid Seamount and Ungud Transform Deep This sonar image shows a 800 m high seamount on the south flank of the Southeast Indian Ridge.
The sharp bends in the abyssal hills mark the spreading center offset at the Ungud Transform.
The seamount was recently formed near the spreading center where new seafloor is being created by the NE-SW divergence of the Australian and Antarctic tectonic plates.

MSN Encarta - Print Preview - Dreaming, The
A good example comes from north-western Australia where the Rainbow Serpent, known as Ungud, is believed to have created clones of itself and deposited them in various water holes.
In a sense Ungud is an archetype of life itself—an All-Soul, rather than a Father-God or Mother-God.
Given that Ungud is said to be bisexual, it is possible that the apparent facial outline enclosing nose and eyes (but no mouth) is actually a symbol for the testicles and penis inside the vagina.

Historical Perspective on Ideas about the Origin of Species
In the Beginning there were only Sky and Earth: dwelling in the earth was Ungud, in the form of a great snake; and in the sky, Wallanganda, the Milky Way.
And in the night, as Ungud and Wallanganda dreamed, life arose from the watered earth in the forms of their dreams.
From Wallanganda's dreaming a spiritual force went forth as images that he projected onto rocks and into caves, where they can still be seen, painted red and white and fl.

They are identified also with the image of a serpent appearing on the rock art of the area.
Among the Kimberley tribes the snakes are called Unguds, the word 'Ungud' being applied primarily to a life principle or 'vital force', and the natives believe that the Wandjina and Ungud paintings must be restored at the beginning of the wet season to ensure that rain will fall and fertilization will proceed.
It is believed that the Ungud serpent was the totem of the Wandjina.

Yet still there is more: the snakes concerned - be they Wondjina or Ungud - are specifically water snakes, and their spirit is that of the rainbow (cf.
Looking closely at the published reproductions of these figures, it is possible to imagine that the halos around the Wondjinas' heads are in fact snakes, arched in the form of rainbows, and not particularly the gåris about which Lévy-Bruhl was so enthusiastic.
A similarly definitive answer was at least intimated by Elkin: "If a thing is ungud, or brought about by ungud, there is nothing more to be said about it, or at least nothing more is going to be said".

Donny is named after his mother's brother, Donald Langii.
Like all Worora children, Donny also has several Aboriginal names including his ungud name of Yornaday which is derived from a place north of Kunmunya where his father 'found' his 'child spirit' (called one's ungud) in a dream in a whirlpool.
'Woolagoodja,' which is the ungud name of Donny's father, was adapted by missionaries and government officials as a European-type surname for Donny's parents and their children.
