Unices and their clones all have a similar architecture, and the ideas pioneered by UNIX show through in all modern operating systems.
The differences between Unices is in the details; for instance, all Unices have similar command line utilities, but each variant might have different options for these utilities.
It wasn't until late 1992 that any Unices besides A/UX were ported to the Mac, and all of these UNIX ports were done without Apple help.

Most Unices (the more common plural form) are derived more or less directly from AT&T (now Novell) code (some code from the first C version is presumably still left in most), but there are also clones (i.e.
Today, there are literally hundreds of Unices available, the closest thing to standard Unix being (by definition) System V. This answer was put together mostly from information on the net and email.
Given the significant exchange of code and ideas between the various flavors and the many changes made by vendors, any statement such as "this Unix is an SVR2" is at best a statistical statement (except for some SVRn ports).

We are still looking for developers to help porting the plugins to new plattforms and contributing new plugins or other goodies for XFce.

In Context: The Handwriting's On The Wall; Proprietary Unices Are Morphing into a Future Super-Linux
Over the past year and a half SGI and IBM have made some major announcements about giving some of the code from their high-end proprietary Unix OSes to the Linux kernel team.
There are probably a lot of reasons related to the desire of these vendors to retain the revenue streams from their proprietary Unices for as long as they can; I mean, once you've told your customers that you're planning to transition to a free OS, they're likely to tell you to hurry up!

Caldera is releasing the source of some of the historical Unices it inherited through its acquisitions, including 16 bit UNIX Versions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 for the PDP-11 and 32-bit 32V UNIX.
However, the more "interesting" UNIX versions, UNIX System III and UNIX System V (and their descendants) are purposely omitted (probably to prevent competition with UNIXWare and OpenServer, or to harvest the relevant technologies from them that Caldera wants to keep in its pocket.) A PDF of the license is available for viewing.
