The FEC investigation found that, during at least the 1998, 2000, and 2002 election cycles, the union assigned employees known as "field representatives" to work directly for the campaigns of federal, state, and local candidates on union time.
The union told employees which candidates to support, and how much to contribute, and it gave a deadline by which contributions needed to be sent to the union office.

The City of Union grew from a small settlement that may have existed as early as the late 1700's.
It has been recorded that Union was established as early as 1833, but existing documentation shows that Union was officially incorporated as a city in 1838.
Why the name Union was chosen no one actually knows, but the story goes that since it was a connection point between the City of Florence and Big Bone Lick, "Union" seemed somehow appropriate.

The 10th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry was organized in Lebanon, Kentucky on November 21, 1861 and mustered out of service on December 6, 1864.
Some of the notable service of this unit was the defense of Kentucky from John Hunt Morgan’s second raid in to Kentucky, the Battle at Chickamauga, Battle of Missionary Ridge, action at the Chattahoochee River, and finally the Battle of Jonesborough/Jonesboro.
The 10th Kentucky’s action at Horseshoe Ridge at the Battle of Chickamauga was particularly notable and helped contribute to Gen. George Thomas’ nickname “the Rock of Chickamauga” and the unit had a member awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his action at the Battle of Jonesboro.

Although recruited in a slave state where Lincoln received only 0.9 percent of the 1860 presidential vote, the men of the Fifteenth Kentucky fought and died for the Union for over three years, participating in all the battles of the Atlanta campaign, as well as the battles of Perryville, Stones River and Chickamauga.
