Union County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois.
Union County was formed out of Johnson County in 1818, the same year Illinois joined the Union.
In the county the population was spread out with 23.20% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 25.10% from 45 to 64, and 17.50% who were 65 years of age or older.

JOHN ELLIS was born 9 March, 1735, in Frederick County, VA. He enlisted in Greenbrier County, serving as an Indian spy from 1773 to 1783; was appointed by Gen. Andrew Lewis and served at Ellis' Fort under Capt. John Cook.
He came to Union County, Illinois in 1809 and was pensioned.
He settled in Union County, Illinois, where he died as a very old man. He was pensioned.

Although the first example of Anna pottery published in the twentieth century appeared in the April, 1933 issue, it was not until the November, 1938 issue that the mystery of the location of the Anna Pottery was solved with publication of the inscribed jug in the New York Historical Society.
Union County land records were useful in sorting out problems of land ownership and management, and county histories, though not always reliable, outlined the lives of the potters.
According to Cornwall's biography in the Union County (Illinois) history, he left the common schools of Ohio at the age of twelve to apprentice as a store clerk and bookkeeper, probably in Cincinnati.

Before the region that is presently Union County was settled, the site of the Camp Ground Church was already recognized as an excellent spot to camp and rest.
The site was on the main trail from the Ohio River to the Mississippi River near the intersection with the main trail running north from Fort Massac.
