Branch County native Harriet Quimby was many things during her lifetime, a journalist, an early aviator and a model for all that women could do at a time when the struggle for women's rights was in its infancy.
Branch County was once home to several cement companies and is considered to be among the early pioneers in its' production.

Union Township is a township located in Branch County in the U.S. state of Michigan.
The entire township is drained by various tributaries of the St. Joseph, the largest being the Coldwater River, which flows into the St. Joseph at Union City.
In the township the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older.

The township is watered by the north branch of the Galien River, which enters in the lower part of section 12, and passes diagonally through sections 13, 23, 22, 27, 29, and passes out in section 29.
The western part of the township that is accessible to the lake was largely and heavily timbered, and its early settlement was largely due to this fact.
The assessed valuation of the township of Chickaming in 1856 was $88,416, as shown by the assessment-rolls of that year.

By an act of the Legislative Council of the Territory of Michigan, approved March 7, 1834, Girard Township was formed from Coldwater and Prairie River Townships.
The Girard Township Hall was built in 1893 at a cost of $675.00 the contractor was Herbert Roe, the Township Hall is still in use today and the Township Board meets the first Monday of each month.
This Township is located on the North border of Branch County, it is joined on the north by Calhoun County, and on the east, south, and west by the Townships of Butler, Coldwater, and Union respectively.

THE township of Bertrand is bounded on the north by the townships of Niles and Buchanan; on the east by that portion of Niles that was originally Bertrand, from which it is separated by the St. Joseph River; on the south by the State of Indiana, and on the west by Galien.
Its water-courses are the St. Joseph River on the east, McCoy's Creek, the head-waters of which rise in the western part of the township, and one of the branches of Galien River, also in the western part.
The village of Dayton is situated on the Michigan Central Railroad, on sections 6 and 7, in the western part of the township.

Hiram J. Pendill was born in Union Township of Branch County, Michigan, August 21, 1837, son of James and Eliza (Wilder) Pendill, the former a native of Palmyra, New York, and the latter also a native of that state.
Hiram J. Pendill attended school in Branch County and when a young man was initiated into the business of farming.
In February, 1861, he came to Milgrove Township of Steuben County, and after five or six years working for others he engaged in farming for himself, and that continued his occupation for practically half a century.
