County Government in New Jersey is organized around the semi-legislative Board of Chosen Freeholders, the elected administrative officials of the County.
In March of 1780 an act of the New Jersey Legislature enabled the governing body to meet in the John Ringoes Tavern in Amwell, for the convenience of the County's inhabitants.
In the spring of 1994 a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the corner of Capner Street and Park Avenue, for the construction of the new 115,000 square feet Hunterdon County Justice Center.

In Hunterdon County History, by Snell, it is stated that the Frenchtown locality was known in 1759 as Calvin's Ferry and that a road lead from there to Everettstown.
New Jersey tax records of 1778 do not show Luther Calvin as a land owner so it can be presumed that he had died before then.
To the contrary, New Jersey records of the "Loyalists" of the period show that "Luther Colvin, Jr." of Hunterdon County "refused oaths, fined and baled" in 1777, and that "Stephen Colvin" of Hunterdon County also "refused oaths, fined" the same year.

In 1862 the Presbyterians in Westfield (Union county) built a large traditional-looking church near the center of town.
The Tuscan arch is sometimes shallow, as in the Methodist church in Clinton (Hunterdon county), erected in 1863 along the south branch of the Raritan; the well-articulated dentils here are not always incorporated in the arch, but invariably are part of the pediment.
Nine churches of this design were built in Hunterdon county, including the Annandale Reformed (1868), the stone Milford Presbyterian church (1868), Three Bridges Reformed (1873), High Bridge Methodist (1873), and the Quakertown Methodist (1878).

 Musconetcong Mountain Conservancy
Musconetcong Mountain is a ridge in the Highlands region of New Jersey which runs parallel to the Musconetcong River through the northern part of  Hunterdon County.
The ridge runs across Alexandria, Holland, Bethlehem and Lebanon Township.  Two of the highest points on the ridge are Musconetcong Mountain in Bloomsbury at 955 feet above sea level and Point Mountain in Lebabnon Township, at 935 feet above sea level.
The Musconetcong Mountain Conservancy is working with the non-profit organizations, and local, county and state governments to preserve property along the Musconetcong Mountain.

Around 1750 an iron forge is built by New York City businessman Garret Rapalje near the southern end of the Lake at the point where it flows into the Musconetcong River.
The company provided service from the "new" Landing railroad station, built around 1886, to all areas of the Lake by means of a 'feeder canal' that traveled from the Lake at the area of the State Park and connected to the Canal in the area of the current Landing Shopping Center.
The "Lackawanna Cut-off" begins construction across New Jersey at this time, it is a Railway Engineering marvel, running in a straight level line from just north of Port Morris to the Delaware River.
