Southworth was married in Union Township, this county, to Philena Rice.
Union Regular Baptist Church, located in the western part of Jackson Township, was organized a few years preceding the war of the rebellion by Rev. Jacob Dye, with a membership of eleven.
This union has been blessed with six children, two of whom are now living, viz.: William C. and Oliver H. In the fall of 1853, he came to Union County, and, after living in different parts of which, he finally, in the spring of 1881, settled in the southern portion of Jackson Township.

 History of Luzerne County Pennsylvania
EDWIN F. farmer and merchant, Huntington township, P.O. Cambra, was born December 4, 1859, in Columbia county, a son of Andrew and Eveline (Stephus) Laubach, natives of Pennsylvania and of German and English origin, the former of whom is a merchant at Guava, Columbia Co., Pa., a son of Frederick and Mary (Larish) Laubach.
BYRON A. farmer, of Fairmount township, P.O. Ripple, was born October 8, 1843, in that township, and is a son of James F. And Julia A. (Grotz) Leacock, natives of Pennsylvania, and of English and German origin, respectively.
GEORGE LEWIS, butcher, Kingston, was born in Franklin township, Luzerne Co., Pa., July 30, 1841, and is a son of Nathan and Nancy (De Witt) Lewis, the former a native of New York, the latter of Pennsylvania.

The earliest county land ownership map is A Map of Wayne and Pike Counties, prepared in 1814 by Jason Torrey, and considered the first such map ever made in the United States (see Couzen in Wolter and Grim).

He then enlisted in the One Hundred and Forty-third Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was mustered in as first sergeant of Company K. He served with his regiment in all of the marches and battles in which it participated up to the battle of the Wilderness, where he was severely wounded.
To this union were barn two children: George and Sarah A. He was again married, in 1860, to Ann McCaslin of Fairfield township and to them have been born eight children: John Henry; Alfred Austin; Joseph B., deceased David, Gideon; Mary Elizabeth; Samuel W.; Martha Ann, and Charles L., deceased.
He remained with his parents, attending the public schools of Cascade township, until 1873, and then entered the Montoursville Normal School, where he continued his studies until the fall of 1879; he was then appointed a teacher in that institution, and continued to fill that position for one term.

Huntington is one of the seventeen "certified townships" laid out by the Susquehanna company and confirmed by acts of the assembly passed in 1799.
Under the Connecticut title, previous to 1776, it was known as "Bloomingdale township", and the name was changed to Huntington in 1799 in honor of Samuel Huntington, a native of Windham, Connecticut, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

The Pennsylvania School Breakfast Report Card released today by the Pennsylvania Hunger Action Center is a comprehensive review and rating of school districts, based on their participation of the federal School Breakfast Program.
Were Pennsylvania to achieve even the national average in school breakfast program participation, an additional 34,000 children would be served and an additional $7 million in federal funds would be available to cover the cost.
In contrast Dubois School District (Clearfield County), second on this year’s list and third on last year’s list, will not be on the “Failing the Children” list in the future.

 FEMA: Union Township Becomes Project Impact Community
UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- On Thursday, October 26, Union Township in Mifflin County became the second Pennsylvania community to join a national program designed to cut disaster risk.
The commonwealth nominated Union Township as a Project Impact community in the fall of 1998, and on Thursday it became one of more than 200 communities in the FEMA initiative.
Lycoming County was named the first Pennsylvania project impact community in 1998 and the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority/Mitigation Advisory Board was nominated for the program late last year.
