State of the Union Address 1981
In this State of the Union Message I want to recount the achievements and progress of the last four years and to offer recommendations to the Congress for this year.
Under the National Health Plan I have proposed, there would be no cost-sharing for prenatal and delivery services for all pregnant women and for acute care provided to infants in their first year of life.
National Health Insurance, Welfare Reform, Child Health Assessment Program, are before the Congress and I urge their passage.

Changes at First Union National Bank
If you opened an account at the Progress Plaza Branch when it was Corestates or First Union, you probably will have your account transferred to United Bank.
If you are in that situation and have had direct deposit of your Temple paycheck to First Union, the banks will be responsible for the changeover of the direct deposit to United Bank.
If you wish to continue to be a First Union account holder and did not notify the banks by September 10, we are told that you will need to close your new United Bank Account and open a new First Union account.

The New Committee for Continued Progress
Remember that, as aa district union in National MEBA, AMO enjoyed autonomy until a new National MEBA leadership moved to deny us that all-important right, causing AMO members everywhere to rally behind Mike McKay's call for withdrawal from National MEBA in 1994.
Under Mike McKay, our union has done so well that there is no need for merger or affiliation with any other organization, and we cannot understand why Jerry would even bring it up.
Mike McKay has not even considered merging AMO with any other organization, not even to get back into the AFL-CIO (AMO's past affiliation with the labor federation was through our link to the National MEBA, and our dispute was with that union, not the AFL-CIO).

State of the Union: Progress on Campus
Following up on a previous post about the overwhelming liberal bias among college faculty, the Toledo Blade has some encouraging news about progress Ohio's college Republicans are making with their peers.
National studies show that liberal students still outnumber their conservative peers on campuses, but only by a small margin.
The Blade cites a national survey of college freshmen conducted last fall which found the divide between liberal and conservative ideology among students narrowing dramatically since the 1970s.

 Progress
The International was reluctant to suspend a local union for disregarding its obligations when the dues and support of each local were so critically needed.
Despite the remarkable devotion of these men and the personal sacrifices they made to perform the work of the Brotherhood, they were unable to devote sufficient time to union business to ensure that locals complied with the provisions of the Constitution.
From 1913 to 1919, while our Brotherhood was feeling its way and setting the stage for progressive action, membership exploded: from 23,500 in 1913 to 148,072 in 1919.

Progress is taking a drive through National City The San Diego Union-Tribune
Today, however, National City Boulevard is undergoing a fairly amazing transformation, which could serve as a blueprint for other underdeveloped urban thoroughfares in the region, such as University Avenue, Imperial Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard in the city of San Diego.
National City Boulevard is mainly known for the Mile of Cars in the southern half of the city.
Meanwhile, the National City police are busy cleaning up the boulevard through prostitution stings and sweeps through the rundown motels, looking for parole violators with outstanding warrants.

Bush, Kerry spar over qualifications, Iraq progress The San Diego Union-Tribune
Dan Gibson, commander of the California Air National Guard, said his personnel are seeing "probably four times more action" as the Guard's focus has changed since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
In a speech to the National Guard Association of the United States, Bush also said he was proud of his service more than 30 years ago in the Texas National Guard, without mentioning the controversy about his service.
No longer called to service just during times of natural disaster or civil unrest at home, National Guard personnel are on the front lines in Afghanistan and Iraq and have seen their commitments extended because of multiplying homeland security needs at home.

EUROPA - Enlargement : Candidate Country: Hungary
However, EU nationals who want to establish themselves as self-employed farmers and who have been legally resident and active in farming in Hungary for at least three years continuously are excluded from the scope of this transitional period.
Trade unions, employer organisations, civil society organisations and individual citizens around the Union and the Candidate Countries were taking part in a debate within their countries on what they would like to see changed in the Union.
A so-called Regular Report on the progress of each of the candidate countries on the way towards accession is published every autumn.

UK National Audit Office press notice - Financial management of the European Union: A progress report
However, some progress has been made by the Commission, in that the Court was able for the first time to give positive assurance in the area of Pre-Accession Aid.
Following the enlargement of the European Union on 1 May 2004 with the accession of ten new Member States — Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, the Slovak Republic, and Slovenia - there will be even greater attention paid to the use that the EU makes of its resources.
Because of this and also because of inconsistency in the reporting of fraud and irregularity by individual Member States, it is difficult to assess whether the level of irregularity and fraud is improving or worsening year on year despite these figures for 2001 and 2002.

Portsmouth Herald World/National News: Iran vote urges nuclear progress
France, Britain and Germany, acting on behalf of the 25-nation European Union, want Tehran to abandon its enrichment activities in exchange for economic aid, technical support and backing for Iran’s efforts to join the World Trade Organization.
The European Union has threatened to take Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions if it again starts uranium reprocessing.
The legislation was viewed as strengthening the government’s hand in negotiations with European Union representatives, allowing it to demonstrate domestic pressure to pursue its nuclear program as talks have deadlocked.

 National Union of Eritrean Women
Under the standard bearer of "Emancipation through equal participation", the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEWmn) emerged onto Eritrea's tumultuous, revolutionary landscape in 1979, as one of the national, mass organizations of the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF)...
Although most of these efforts are staged at a rural level, the NUEWmn also lobbies persistently for women's interests at a national level and forges international ties with sympathetic organizations around the world.
With roughly 200,000 Union members from all walks of life (including the Eritrean Diaspora in Europe, the Middle East and North America), the NUEWmn pursues gender equality on village, district, sub-regional and provincial levels.

 Socialist Alliance marks progress
The Nation Trade Union Fight Back Conference is a national gathering of trade unionists to discuss strategy and tactics for building resistance to the Howard government's anti-union laws.
The conference was strongly influenced by the militant unions and on May 10, many delegates and alliance members joined thousands of unionists in a demonstration to defend former Victorian secretary of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union Craig Johnston.
The third national conference of the Socialist Alliance, held in Melbourne on May 8-9, confirmed that the SA is here to stay, is growing and is taking further steps towards becoming a multi-tendency socialist party.

Politics of Guinea-Bissau - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Politics of Guinea-Bissau takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic in transition, whereby the President is head of state and the Prime Minister is head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system.
Following the 1998-99 civil war, presidential and legislative elections were again held, bringing opposition leader Kumba Ialá and his Party for Social Renewal to power.
Ialá was ousted in a bloodless coup in September 2003, and Henrique Rosa was sworn in as President.
