United Democratic Forces - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United Democratic Forces (Obedineni demokraticni sili) is an electoral alliance in Bulgaria.
After being in government with prime minister Ivan Kostov the United Democratic Forces lost the 2001 elections, decreasing to 18.2 % of the popular vote and 51 out of 240 seats.
With time Kostov grew increasingly dissatisfied with the new UDF leadership and chairwoman Nadezhda Mikhailova, who was a popular foreign minister in Kostov's own government.

The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF--Bulgarian Sayuz na Demokratichnite Sili--SDS), which emerged as the chief opposition faction to the BCP after 1989, was a motley coalition of several major and many minor parties and groups.
The basis of the UDF was the dissident groups that formed under the faltering Zhivkov regime in the late 1980s.
In the first half of 1990, the stature of the UDF was enhanced by its participation as an equal in round table discussions with the BCP (BSP) on a range of policy issues that would set future economic and political policy.

The Union des forces progressistes (UFP) is a left wing political party in Quebec, Canada.
Quebec's Green Party, the Parti vert du Québec, has pledged to try to avoid running candidates in ridings where there is a UFP candidate, although it reserves the right to run anywhere it wants to (even ridings with a UFP candidate), and has not merged with the UFP.
However as a left-wing party, it considers this option not as an end in itself, but rather as a means to achieve the party's social ideal for the people of Quebec.

It is clear that the MPs from the different parliamentary political forces were quite heterogeneous, the BSP majority coming predominantly from the former political and administrative elite, whereas the opposition comprised mostly people from the free professions, dissidents, and repressed by the communist regime.
At that, their main problem was establishment of political democratic institutions, while the "transformers" must have been thinking in the categories of structural adjustment of the economy, besides keeping a definite position in power.
The UDF has obviously continued to uphold political values such as freedom and democracy but is also apparently embracing terms typical of the economic classical liberal model, if we bracket the frequent use of ownership and family - at that, with a new emphasis on the law.
