Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) is a trade union in the United Kingdom.
It has over 341,000 members, the majority of whom are shop workers and has a reputation as one of the less militant unions, rarely organising industrial action.
The union was formed in 1947 by the merger of the National Union of Distributive and Allied Workers and the National Union of Shop Assistants, Warehousemen and Clerks.

Social Change Online: Case Studies: Usdaw - Union of Shop Distributive and Allied Workers - 30 April 2003
Usdaw and Social Change Online worked closely together to develop an online strategy to ensure that Usdaw's new website was central to implementing its national priorities of recruitment, campaigning, resourcing reps and communicating with members.
This also allows Usdaw, in the future, to create mini-sites for the different industries members work in: for example if they wanted to find all content relating to retail for those members who work in supermarkets, all content is already classified accordingly and could easily be searched and grouped.
Usdaw have gained a greater understanding of issues that are important to their members through questions submitted to their "Ask Jan" section, and contributions to forums and polls.

Ultimate ban on Christmas - This Is Lancashire   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
IN calling for a ban on Christmas Day shopping, the general secretary of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers, Sir Bill Connor, is, I believe, rather "one eyed".
In supporting a ban on only the large stores from opening on Christmas Day, he is discriminating against shop workers who work in small shops, whose bosses will want them to work on Christmas Day.
And we all know how hard health workers work; we should ban the hospitals from opening so that these workers as well can enjoy a well-earned rest with their families on Christmas Day.
