Uniontown is served by the Pennsylvania and the Baltimore and Ohio railways.
From 1827 to 1832 Uniontown was the seat of Madison College, formed from Union Academy (founded 1808); in 1832 the college was merged with Allegheny College, of Meadville, Pa. In 1866 the buildings were turned over to the Soldiers Orphans School (now at Jumonville, a suburb), which occupied them until 1875.
In the south-eastern part of the county is the district known as Great Meadows; here George Washington built Fort Necessity in 1754, and General Edward Braddock died and was buried here after his defeat by the French and Indians in 1755.

She was then brought to New Orleans for completion on 4 April 1944 where she was renamed Uniontown on 16 August 1944 to free the name Chattanooga for CL-118.
She was commissioned on 6 October 1944 under the command of CDR Richard E. Morell, USCG.

White, a fl man and a lifetime resident of Uniontown, was sharing with us his memories of the successful fl businessman, William Henry Eldridge, who was a major figure in the town from the early years of the 20th century until his death around 1963.
Eldridge was known as a diligent manager and a "square dealer." His mercantile company grew as he became the primary supplier of groceries and miscellaneous farm items to Uniontown residents and farmers in the region.

A juvenile suspected of operating a stolen vehicle died yesterday after he was wounded during a foot chase by state police in Uniontown.
Trooper Brian Burden, spokesman for the Uniontown barracks, said that because of the investigation, he couldn't say whether the youth had fired at the troopers or whether he was found to be armed.
The troopers involved in the incident, Juan Curry and Samuel Nassan, both of the Uniontown barracks, were reassigned to administrative duties pending completion of the investigation by state police and the Fayette County district attorney's office.
