Unipart is to shed a further 20 jobs at its car parts distribution business in Cowley, as part of a reorganisation that will also result in the recruitment of 250 staff at its manufacturing division in Coventry.
Unipart is set to take over the management of Daihatsu's UK parts and accessories business, which will include distribution to its dealers, warehousing, stock management and administration.
Unipart, along with three development capital groups, is considering a bid for Railpart, the British Rail supplier of rolling stock spares, in a move that would take Unipart away from its core business of supplying automotive parts.

Unipart believes it can cut training time for its 10,000 staff by at least 20% by allowing them to learn skills online in their place of work, rather than taking time out to travel to courses.
A pilot study, by Unipart's precision machining business, showed staff were able to learn how to use a precision micrometer in just one hour of online training, compared to six hours needed to attend a course off-site.
Unipart, which was unable to find suitable commercial training packages, has opted to develop its own courses.
