The UnitedArabList has adopted an explicitly Islamic message in the hopes of inspiring thousands of Arab voters who have boycotted past elections.
The Arab families who remained in their villages during Israel's 1948 war of independence account for roughly 20 percent of the Jewish state's 6 million people.
The Arabparties are a collection of religious Islamic parties and communist and secular-nationalist movements, and together they hold eight of the Israeli parliament's 120 seats.
The October 2000 riots, the continued stalemate in the peace process, the sharp rise in unemployment -- particularly in Arab towns and villages -- and the Arab public's discontent with its legislators have led to widespread frustration among Israel's million Arabs.
The 10 Arab legislators currently are split among five parties: The UnitedArabList (3), Hadash (3), the National ArabParty (2), Balad (1) and the ArabList for Change (1).
All the Arabparties already have called for unity, but each wants to make sure that its own people would stand at the head of a unitedlist.

UnitedArabList: Increased funding for the Arab sector
The UnitedArabList (Ra'am) is the largest Arablist in the Knesset, and is comprised of three parties: The Islamic Movement (Southern Branch), Mada (The Arab Democratic Party), and Hashem Mahmid's National Front.
The leader of the Ra'am Knessetlist is Abdulmalik Dehamshe.
Arab MKs are mocking the proposed ´Arab Affair Committee,´ saying it is an insult to them and their constituents.
It seems that the ArabKnessetmembers are not too pleased with the results of the recent negotiations between Labor chief Amir Peretz and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in light of the new addition of MK Avigdor Lieberman to the coalition along with his right-wing Israel Our home Party.
MK Ahmad Tibi (UnitedArab List-Ta´al) said that the attempt to add Lieberman to the government by forming an Arab affairs committee is insulting.
The 100-strong Commando Squadron is the primary CT unit for the Emirate.
This unit has been heavily influenced by the British SAS, and is believed to be tasked with providing CT capabilities to all Emirates within the UAE who do not already have such a team in place.
This unit is 40 men strong and is based at the Abu Dhabi Airport.
The UnitedArabList, Balad, and the single-member Ta'al (which ran on a joint ticket with the UnitedArabList in the 2006election, the coalition known as Ra'am-Ta'al) are the Arabparties currently in the Knesset, and along with the Jewish-Arab Hadash, make up most of the Arab representation in the Knesset.
The UnitedArabList was established in 1996, as a union between two politicalparties: The Arab Democratic Party (Hezb al-Democraty al-Arabi / Miflaga Democratit Aravit) and elements related to the southern faction Islamic Movement and to the National Unity Front.

Now that Hadash or communist-led list and the Islamist-backed UnitedArabList (UAL) led by Abdel-Wahab Darawsha are supporting One Israel's Ehud Barak for prime minister, I expect the majority of Palestinians will vote for Barak in the first round.
Thus the communists believe that the Arab minority must forge alliance with progressive Jews to transform Israel from being an ethnic state to being a democratic state.
The Islamists, who are the main force in the UAL, conceive of identity in religious terms, which pits them not only against Israel's Jewish majority but also against Palestinian Christians, as the recent clashes in Nazareth attest.
The party rejects the recruitment of Arabs to the IDF and wants equal representation to Arabs at State institutes.
The party also backs a boost in the status of women in all areas and the payment of allowances to all Israeli Arabs without discrimination as is the case with Jews.
The UnitedArabList ran independently in the elections for the 15th and 16th Knesset.
Arab MKs call Peretz a 'child killer' | Jerusalem Post(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
Peretz's speech was interrupted dozens of times, and three Arab MKs - Ibrahim Sarsour and Taleb a-Sanaa (UnitedArablist) and Jamal Zahalka (Balad) - were eventually ejected from the session by KnessetSpeaker Dalia Itzik.
She threatened to eject Ahmad Tibi (UnitedArabList) as well, but calmed him down after reminding him that he is a deputy Knessetspeaker and that it would be undignified for him to find himself thrown out.
Aside from the heckling by members of Arabparties, however, Peretz's speech was widely echoed by MKs across the political spectrum, including opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu, who added that Hizbullah posed a strategic threat, and that Israel therefore required a strategic victory.
UnitedArab List-Ta´al leader emails suggested amendment to Knessetmember immunity law in protest of supposed anti-Arab bills, initiatives; ‘Arab MK won´t breathe, won´t move, won´t stand, and won´t sit without permission of authorized officials," he says sarcastically
UnitedArab List-Ta´al leader MK Ahmad Tibi distributed a document using the Knesset´s internal email service Wednesday suggesting an amendment to the Knessetmember immunity law, which he claimed worsened the position of Arab representatives in the Knesset.
Tibi was referring to a bill preventing family reunification with Palestinian partners, as well as a bill by MK Gilad Erdan (Likud) which passed Wednesday in an initial call to revoke the citizenship of any citizen who travels to Syria or Lebanon.
Samih Ganadri turned in his weekly column to the Arab voters in Israel asking them to be rational in their choice; he asks them to remember "the sufferance of their people since 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1982 and the continuous war against the national liberality movement.
The number of the Arab families below the poverty line is 90,400, which is about 30% of the total number of the poor families in Israel and 43% of the total number of Arabs in the country.

United Arab List denies calling for Islamic state in Israel - Haaretz - Israel News(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
Contrary to media reports, the UnitedArab List-Ta'al platform does not include a call for the establishment of an Islamic state in Israel, MK Ahmed Tibi, the party's campaign headquarters chairman, said Thursday.
Likud has petitioned Central Elections Committee chairwoman Dorit Beinisch to disqualify the UnitedArabList from participating in March's Knessetelections, claiming the party's leaders reject the existence of Israel as a democratic Jewish state and support the militant Palestinian struggle against Israel.
In the last Knessetelections, the committee voted to disqualify the Arabparty Balad under the leadership of MK Azmi Bashara, but the High Court ruled against this decision.
On the next page he claims there was no plan, and that most of the Arabs left of their own accord for a variety of reasons, as though he has not made up his own mind about the evidence.
Morris documents the subjugation and humiliation of Jews under Islam, the miserable state of Palestine under Turkish rule, the plans by Zionists to force Arab immigration, the Nazi associations of the Mufti, the perfidy of the British against both sides, the flight and expulsion of PalestinianArabs, and the history of each war.
Esposito examines radical Islam and concludes that it is not a threat to democracy or the West.
The petitions were submitted in the wake of a harsh anti-Zionist speech by Arablist chairman Sheikh Ibrahim Sarsur, who during a press conference Wednesday said that the rule on earth, or at least the rule in Arab and Muslim lands should be led by the Caliph (Muslim leader and Muhammad's heir.)
Meanwhile, members of UnitedArab List-Ta'al said Sarsur did not demand the establishment of an Islamic rule in Israel, but rather, only referred to Islamic rule in Arab and Muslim territories.
Arabpartymembers reacted with fury to the petitions against the party's participation in the upcoming elections.
The man who appears to be slotted for the job is Taleb al-Sana, a Bedouinmember of the UnitedArabList which holds five seats in the 120-strong parliament or Knesset.
The appointment of an Arab Israeli to the committee marks a change of policy towards Arabs who were previously excluded from participation in committees dealing with security issues.
