  United Ethiopian Democratic Forces - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (or UEDF) is a coalition of several existing political parties of Ethiopia which combined to compete for seats in the Ethiopian General Elections held on May 15, 2005.
At the last legislative elections on 15 May 2005, the UEDF gained 52 seats in the Council of People's Representatives, consisting of 40 from the Oromia region and 12 from the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region.
In October the UEDF briefly supported the other major opposition party, the Coalition for Unity and Democracy, in a refusal to participate in the CPR until several demands were met.

The struggle of the Ethiopian people and the democratic opposition forces has taken a giant leap foreward by the formation of  the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces, which is a united front of 15 Ethiopian opposition organizations.
The UEDF will be led by a 30- member Council (Shengo) with 2 representatives from each member organization, and a 15 member Executive Committee, one each representing the member organizations.
It was also unanimously agreed to keep the door open to all opposition organizations that were unable to be part of the present United Front and that accept the agreed upon principles of UEDF.

The police forces once again attempted to contain the protests and this time 42 people were killed in Addis Ababa, including seven policemen, and another of whom later died because of fatal injuries caused by a hand grenade detonation.

 Parties’ debate on democracy and good governance
The United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF) on its part said that the essential requirements for a democratic system including the rule of law, conducting free and fair elections, respect of human rights, independent media and CSOs were still absent in Ethiopia.
It said UEDF would not engage in any anti-peace and illicit activities, but could not be made accountable if people revolt for the respect of their rights.
With regard to the education policy, UEDF argued that the policy is expanding poverty as it fundamentally lacks quality.

UEDF is waging a bitter campaign against these two parties while the common enemy is sitting back and laughing at them.
UEDF should be responsible and accountable for its action and its leader should have a little bit of respect for those who financially and morally support them.
They say, the only solution for Ethiopian political problem is to take arms against the regime and at the same time they talk about their intention to struggle peacefully since 1991 if EPRDF had not discredit it.

Tesfaye Adane, an MP-elect from the United Ethiopian Democratic Forces (UEDF), one of Ethiopia's main opposition parties, was killed some 225 kilometres (140 miles) south of Addis Ababa on Sunday, the UEDF said.
Another UEDF member was killed by police at his home in Jeldu in northeast Ethiopia on Saturday, according to UEDF President Merara Gudina.

 Ethiopian ruling party wins
The Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) took a majority of seats in Oromia, South Ethiopian Peoples' State, Tigray and Amhara states, according to provisional results released on Thursday by the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia.
The provisional results were released after the country's supreme court overturned a ruling issued by a lower court, which on June 10 ruled the release of provisional electoral results is "illegal" and ordered the electoral board to stop issuing such results.
On Monday, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi extended by one month a ban on demonstrations in the capital.
