  United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) - Terrorist Group of Assam
United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) was formed on April 7, 1979 by Bhimakanta Buragohain, Rajiv Rajkonwar alias Arabinda Rajkhowa, Golap Baruah alias Anup Chetia, Samiran Gogoi alias Pradip Gogoi, Bhadreshwar Gohain and Paresh Baruah at the Rang Ghar in Sibsagar to establish a "sovereign socialist Assam" through an armed struggle.
According to reports, ULFA is in the process of relocating its camps in Myanmar, Mon district of Nagaland, Garo hills of Meghalaya and Tirap and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) and Muslim United Liberation Front of Assam (MULFA) are the chief suppliers of arms for the ULFA through Bangladesh.

The " United Liberation Front of Assam, ULFA", a revolutionary political organisation was born on the lawns of the historic Rang Ghar of Sibsagar on 7th April 1979.
To liberate Assam, (a land of 78,529 square K.M.), through Armed national liberation struggle from the clutches of the illegal occupation of India and to establish a sovereign Independent Assam.
ULFA represents: ULFA represents, as its name implies, not only the Assamese nation but also the entire independent minded struggling peoples, irrespective of different race-tribe-caste-religion and nationality of Assam.

ULFA which grew in Assam as a means of protest against the illegal Bangladeshi migrants threatening to swamp the state later got discredited because of its perverted activities.
The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) petitioned President A P J Kalam in New Delhi on February 16 requesting him as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces to direct Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to call off Army operations in Assam and initiate political dialogue to solve the ULFA problem.
The ULFA on March 8 made an oblique statement denouncing the efforts made by former Union minister and BJP leader Arun Shourie to persuade the regional Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) for a poll alliance to fight the Congress.

The ULFA, a rebel group fighting for an independent Assamese homeland since 1979, claimed it had lost at least 15 fighters in the army raid inside the wildlife sanctuary.
ULFA representatives were expected to hold preparatory talks with government peace negotiators next month in New Delhi to pave the way for the rebel leadership to begin direct talks with the authorities at a later stage.
The ULFA leadership has threatened to pull out of the proposed talks saying the government was not reciprocating the outfit's peace overtures.

Ever since they were formed, the major insurgent groups ULFA and NDFB have committed scores of incidents of mindless violence like murders, bomb explosions, kidnapping for ransom etc. which have had a serious bearing on the law and order situation of the state.
The ULFA was responsible for 107 deaths, and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) was responsible for 174 deaths during this period.

Suspected militants of the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) late Sunday triggered a powerful explosion on the oil pipeline near village Palasguri in the western Chirang district, about 220 km from here, a police spokesman said.
The district magistrate of Chirang, Jiten Borgoyari, said the blast was suspected to be carried out by the ULFA to make their presence felt ahead of the prime minister's visit.
The ULFA is yet to claim responsibility for the explosion.

The Indian government move follows recent 'flush-out' operations in Bhutan, in which Mithinga Daimary, publicity secretary of the United National Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), was arrested by the Bhutan Royal Army.
Daimary told the Bhutan Royal Army that the ULFA, reputedly the most violent Assamese group, has shifted their camps to Burma's Kachin State with the assistance of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang) leaders.
In Bhutan's drive to oust anti-India rebels, who have been sheltering there for many years, 150 underground members were killed and several senior leaders of the United National Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were arrested.
