A conservative Presbyterian church voted to sever ties with regional governing bodies in Connecticut and seven other states, saying it is frustrated that some church leaders have repeatedly tried to overturn a church law that bans gay clergy.
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) added a provision in church law in 1997 that requires all clergy and lay officers to observe fidelity in heterosexual marriage or "chastity in singleness." Liberal church officials have since lost two nationwide referendums to repeal that law, which they continue to resist.
The church's parishioners, elders and pastor will not "acknowledge any sympathy for, nor shall we communicate any compromise for reconciliation with the offending presbyteries or act through any third party, except through private prayer conducted in a place apart from them," said the resolution passed by the church's board of elders.

Two teams of volunteers from Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford, ON will be heading off to Mississippi soon to help with cleanup in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.
The boards of governors of Knox College in Toronto and The Presbyterian College in Montreal have unanimously agreed to begin formal discussions to study the desirability of merging their two colleges as part of a process in both institutions to explore future direction.
Presbyterian College, established in 1865, is situated on the campus of McGill University in Montreal.

 Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church Canonsburg, Pennsylvania PA
Deemed the part of the church with the least historical value, the bell tower was dismantled to make way for a new entryway that could accommodate wheelchairs and house handicapped-accessible restrooms.
The red-brick church dates from1840, when it replaced a previous building, probably made of wood, that had served as a house of worship since the 1770s.
In my case, it was the historic Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church, thought to be the oldest church west of the Allegheny Mountains.
