USS President, for example, was lost after being disabled trying to leave New York, and USS Chesapeake was captured by HMS Shannon off Boston (some of its timbers are in the fabric of a pub in Ashford, Kent).

If 1696 is reasonably close to James(1) year of birth, there would scarcely be room timewise for a John to exist between James and Robert, and would call for James to be a teenager when "John" was born, and for "John" to be a teenager when Robert was born.
The Hogg/Prentiss family tended to be very responsible and had many civic and community leaders as well as American patriots.

  There is no Zachariah or any name close to Zachariah in this census which leads me to believe that Zachariah came to the United States some time between 1801 and 1810.
According to records from Terry Medlar, Zachariah came to the United States from Holland around 1790 with two brothers, Philip and Samuel.
Zachariah was living with his daughter, Julia Medlar Davis in 1850 according to the 1850 census.
