The United States Chess Federation (USCF) is the governing chess organization within the United States and is one of the federations of the FIDE.
The USCF was founded in 1939 and grew gradually until 1972, when membership doubled due to interest in Bobby Fischer's rise to the World Championship.
USCF membership dipped after Fischer's withdrawal from public competition, and didn't surpass its 1974 peak until 1992.

Due to the departure of the Chief Financial Officer in late October, the USCF Financial Statements for October, November and December 2001 were not prepared on a timely basis.
USCF staff members are apparently not aware of their current operating budgets.
In addition to generating much debate on the Internet news groups, the USCF office has been literally bombarded each day with calls from members and affiliates who don't understand why their Quick ratings are changing on the USCF website updates, when they say they have not played in any "Quick" tournaments.

The Gilbert High School Chess Club won its third consecutive National High School Chess title last April in Kansas City, placing first in the under -1000 United States Chess Federation rated division in a field of 98 teams and over 400 players.
In 2000 the Tiger Chess players won the under-1300 United States Chess Federation Division of the National High School Chess Championship held in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The GHS Chess Club also won this title in 1999 when the tournament was held in Sioux Falls, North Dakota.

In 1940 he won the first of six championships of the Manhattan Chess Club and set a world record by playing 100 opponents in 7.33 hours, beating the previous record by one hour, according to his biography.
