Public Health Protests Grow in Capital: Will Congress Act for General Welfare?
In addition to representing the good people of the State of Michigan, Congressman Conyers also serves as the unofficial dean of the Congressional Black Caucus, which has, so many times over the last years, served as the conscience of the United States Congress.
Therefore, I certainly urge the Congressional delegation from Michigan, and the rest of the Congressmen and women around the country, to stand up and fight the closing of D.C. General Hospital.
the dean of the Congressional Black Caucus and a leading advocate of universal public health care, has weighed in with support for maintaining D.C. General Hospital as a public entity....

Congressional Delegations Say U.S. Making Progress in Iraq
Congressmen welcome move to expand role of U.N. Two members of Congress who recently led congressional delegations on fact finding missions to Iraq say much of the country appears to be functioning normally and the United States is doing the right things there.
At a Pentagon media briefing September 4, Republican Representatives Tom Davis of Virginia and Peter Hoekstra of Michigan said they recently led separate bipartisan congressional delegations (CODELS) to Iraq.
I think for the U.S. to be viewed as an occupying force doesn't help us in doing the job we need to do, and I don't think it helps us throughout the Arab world.

 The New Yorker: Fact
In the Gore state of Michigan, which lost a seat in redistricting, the delegation went from 9-7 in favor of the Democrats to 9-6 in favor of the Republicans—even though Democratic congressional candidates received thirty-five thousand more votes than their Republican opponents in 2002.
In 2002, a Democratic plan in Maryland turned that delegation from being evenly divided to a 6-2 Democratic advantage, and Georgia Democrats gained two seats in the House even though in the same election voters rejected a Democratic governor and a Democratic United States senator.
Even in states where voters were evenly divided, the Republicans used their advantage in the state capitals to transform their congressional delegations.
