United States Lines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
United States Lines was a shipping company that operated ocean liners from 1921 to 1969, most famously the SS United States.
Throughout the 1920s the line accumulated debt, and in March 1929 the line was sold to P.W. Chapman Company, and reorganized as "United States Lines Inc." of Delaware.

However, the record also indicates that it was not the function of defendant's marine clerks to supervise the work methods of Associated Banning.

Negligence of the defendant United States Lines Company was the sole proximate cause of the accident and plaintiff's injuries and plaintiff himself was not guilty of any negligence proximately contributing to the happening of the accident or the injuries sustained by him.

In 1986, USL filed a petition in the Southern District of New York under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code (the "Code").
In addressing MALC's objection to the bankruptcy court's venue determination, the district court noted that the plain language of 28 U.S.C. 157(d)(5) states that the power to determine venue is "vested only in 'the district court in which the bankruptcy case is pending.' " United States Lines I, 1998 WL 382023, at *4.
As stated above, 28 U.S.C. 157(b)(5) grants a district court the power to set venue in either: (1) the district in which the bankruptcy is pending; or (2) the district in which the claims arose.

House Flags of U.S. Shipping Companies: U
The pre-World War I American Line and the United States Lines, although with no direct corporate lineage, were both eventually owned by the International Mercantile Marine holding company and so ended up with the same house flag.
During its initial years, the line was operated directly by the US government and used a bureaucratic LOB for a house flag, featuring a steamship propeller inside a triangle inside a circle containing the name of the line.
The name "United States Line" has since been purchased by a company that is running cruises under that name, but I don't know if they are also using the old USL flag.
