 The Bent Brothers
Gilmore's band was the only National Act of the United States until his death of which time Sousa, Innes, and others rose to the distinction of being a "National Act".
Gilmore's band was so well received in the United States that in Utah they were offered to perform at the Mormon Tabernacle.
The old timers in Gilmore's band claimed that Bent was a superman, when it came to endurance, having a fine embouchure, but few knew that he had been playing with false teeth, for a number of years, made by the old vulcanized process.

The U.S. Marine Band: Earning A Salute
All these years later, the United States Marine Band (which has been known as "The President's Own" since the Jefferson administration) continues to fulfill its mission to provide music -- at any time, any place -- for the president of the United States.
It would seem to be smashingly successful, too: All tickets were claimed (the Marine Band does not sell its tickets), and there was a long line of people waiting for last-minute admission.
Seamlessly unified from top to bottom, the band calls to mind a celestial organ with all the stops pulled out, and it played with passion and precision for its director, Lt. Col.
