  United States Elections 2004
The actual size of any state's delegation to the national nominating convention is calculated on the basis of a formula established by each party that includes such considerations as the state's population, its past support for the party's national candidates, and the number of elected officials and party leaders currently serving in public office.
Thus, states that permit selection of party convention delegates in a manner that does not conform to party rules may find their delegates challenged when they get to the national party conventions, or they may find the size of the delegation reduced by the party for violating its rules.
The presidential nominating process is not perfect, but in recent decades it has enhanced participation, improved demographic representation, and strengthened the tie between the average partisan and the candidates.

United States presidential election, 1992 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Even when the economy began recovering in 1992, its growth was virtually imperceptible until late in the year, and many regions of the country remained mired in stagnation.
Every U.S. presidential election campaign is an amalgam of issues, images and personality; and despite the intense focus on the country's economic future, the 1992 contest was no exception.
That election also brought the Democrats full control of the political branches of the federal government, including both houses of U.S. Congress as well as the presidency, for the first time since the administration of the last Democratic president, Jimmy Carter.

Executive Summary of the Task Force on Presidential Debates
Given the 1992 experience and the rapid changes taking place in the national political environment, the Twentieth Century Fund decided that it was an appropriate time to convene a Task Force to assess the role of debates in presidential elections and to consider ways to improve them in the future.
The purpose of general election debates is to provide the public with an opportunity to see the major candidates confront each other so that voters may learn more about the individuals who will be the next president and vice president of the United States.
Ross Perot's 1992 independent candidacy and the prospect of other significant non-major-party candidates in future elections led the Task Force to give serious consideration to the question of who should be invited to participate in the debates.

 Online NewsHour Election 2000: Virginia
Between 1952 and 1996, every Republican Presidential candidate but one has carried the Old Dominion, and recent public opinion polls suggest that the 2000 election is likely to end the century the same way.
The one Republican exception was in 1964, when Lyndon Johnson swept 44 states and the District of Columbia, and won Virginia in part due to the overwhelming support among newly enfranchised African-Americans.
The State Board of Election initially approved a loyalty oath for Republican primary voters, requiring them to promise to support GOP candidates in the November election before being allowed to cast a primary ballot.

In 2001, the Senate of the 77th Legislature of the state of Texas failed to pass a redistricting plan due to partisanship and political infighting.
What these judges created were districts that gave democrats 17 congressional seats to the republicans 15 congressional seats, all in a state that was clearly a republican leaning state.
Noah's argument to its ultimate conclusion, I could conclude Bill Clinton's 1992 victory was undemocratic, because George HW Bush won by 3+ million more vote in 1988 than Bill Clinton won by in 1992.

The election results themselves reveal little of the voter preference information needed for this analysis; however, data from the 1992 American National Election Study (NES) conducted by the Center for Political Studies at the University of Michigan includes more detailed voter preference information as well as other relevant information.
However, when we examine the percentage of voters who decided how to vote in the last few days before the election or on the day of the election, we see that 34% of Perot supporters made their decision during that period as compared with 15% of Bush supporters and 11% of Clinton supporters.
In the actual 1992 election, Bush received 37.7% of the popular vote, Clinton received 43.3% of the popular vote, and Perot received 19.0% of the popular vote.

Talk:United States presidential election, 1992 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The election of 1992 was the most dynamic and interesting recent election.
In the "Campaigns" section it suggests that Ross Perot was "the first 3rd party candidate ever allowed to participate in the nationally televised presidential debates." This is false, considering that independent John Anderson had debated Ronald Reagan in 1980 but with no Jimmy Carter, who had refused to appear in a three-man debate.
So the year 1992 was one of the fourty years during which the Dems had the bonus in the House so this means that Dick Gephardt was the House MAJORITY Leader instead and I edited the page so that it would refer to him as the majority leader.
