In 1971 the United World College of South East Asia was established in Singapore, followed by the UWC of the Pacific in Canada in 1974.
Pearson College in Canada teaches certain subjects in French and Spanish while the UWC of the Adriatic in Italy and the Red Cross Nordic UWC in Norway require that all students study Italian and Norwegian respectively in order to facilitate their relationship with the local populations.

The United World Colleges originated in the ideas of the educationalist Kurt Hahn in the 1950s and the first United World College, Atlantic College, opened in Wales in 1962.
Today, there are ten United World Colleges in the UK, Singapore, Canada, Swaziland, the USA, Italy, Venezuela, Hong Kong, Norway, and India, with one in Costa Rica to open in August 2006.

 National and International Educational Projects
In 1998, the UWC International Board enthusiastically endorsed the establishment of an 11th United World College in the Middle East and preliminary studies for the college were undertaken at a site in Aqaba, which overlooks the strategic and symbolic juncture of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel.
The UWC students are chosen on merit regardless of race, creed, color, background or financial ability and the majority are awarded scholarships.
As UWC President, Queen Noor has inaugurated the ninth UWC college in Norway with Queen Sonja and the tenth UWC college in India, hosted the UWC’s first regional conference in the Middle East and participated in UWC fund-raising events and activities in South Africa, Swaziland, the UK, New York, New Mexico and Toronto.

 Norsk Hydro initiates partnership with United World Colleges - Hydro
It was established in response to the challenges and risks resulting from the cold war aftermath of the Second World War, and was largely based on the ideas of Kurt Hahn, the educational pioneer.
The ten colleges offer a unique mixture of high quality secondary education based on the International Baccalaureate diploma, and an extensive community services programme including rescue services, as well as a broad spectrum of activities in adventure, arts, sport and social activities.

The origins of the UWC organization date back to the mid 1950s, soon after the Second World War, when Kurt Hahn, who had already founded the Salem College in Germany and Gordonstoun College in Scotland, envisaged the possibility of breaking racial, cultural and national barriers through the experience of shared education.
Two new colleges were soon added to the movement: the Singapore College in 1971 and the Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific, in Canada in 1974.

The first College was founded in 1962 in response to the challenges of the Cold War, but recent regional and ethnic hostilities and the accelerating problems of the environment demonstrate that the need for the UWC is even more urgent today.
As soon as a student enters a UWC, he or she becomes part of the UWC International Network, which includes almost 20,000 former students and staff, and encourages its members to remain active and true to the ideals upon which the UWC education is built.

As the government is imposing strict regulations on adoption the village is waiting for the government to approve its proposal to take in children orphaned by tsunami.
Having seen the devastation along the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu after the tsunami we realized that it is of foremost importance that the people affected be able to regain their livelihoods and resume their normal activities.
With this in mind we believe that the funds raised by the college should be focused partly on providing boats and nets to the fishermen community.

Once settled in at the College, the music students will be expected to perform in the College to fellow students, and later in public, at roughly one-monthly intervals.
It is expected that, on completion of the College and the IB, the music scholars will wish to continue their musical studies at the university/academy/conservatory level, although not necessarily to the exclusion of other subjects.
