The UnitedLinux companies are making it difficult for their software providers to produce the very software that will make up UnitedLinux.
A major opjection of UnitedLinux's position has to do with keeping the core functionality of the distribution available under "free" software licenses [gnu.org], be it either GPL compatable [gnu.org] or GPL Incompatable [gnu.org], to limit any future chance of vendor or proprietary lock in.
Besides, people can make their own distribution that is based on UnitedLinux (without having the "Powered By UnitedLinux") and ship it, with using the source code provided (if they can't compile, they better stop making a distro before they start).
