Human Rights Watch/Helsinki and the Committee for the Protection of Journalists protested the cases of Blendi Fevjiu, editor of the Democratic Alliance Party's daily "Aleanca," and Gjergj Zefi, a Democratic Alliance Party official and editor of "Lajmeteri," who were both convicted of libel for articles that they wrote about official corruption.
Some opposition parties have claimed that meetings of their representatives with constituents in private dwellings were prevented by police who insisted on being notified of all such gatherings in advance, regardless of venue.
A second human rights organization, the Albanian Human Rights Documentation Center, was established in 1995 and was active in several areas, including the preparation of human rights educational materials that were being used by elementary and secondary schools starting with the 1995 school year.

Many human rights defenders regularly face harassment by their governments when conducting their work on a regional or international level—passports are confiscated to prevent international travel or reprisals follow upon return home from a human rights meeting abroad or the release of a report outside their country.
The Declaration on Human Rights Defenders reaffirms that everyone has the right to effective access to participation in the government of his or her country and in the conduct of public affairs, "on a non-discriminatory basis." This reflects similar provisions in international law.
Human rights defenders should be free to determine the focus and scope of any human rights activity, and be subject only to the limitations referred to in article 17 of the Declaration.

I was representing the Irish American Unity Conference, an organization focusing on human rights in the north of Ireland, as chair of its human rights committee.
Second, the Bill of Rights is supposed to consist of additional rights on top of those contained in the European Convention of Human Rights, and the government's continued derogation makes it impossible for the NIHRC to deliver even the minimal rights set forth in the Convention.
From a human rights perspective, a government's abrogation of a broad range of individuals' human rights and civil liberties because of any political party's conduct is contrary to fundamental principles.

The law on basic human rights, approved by a two-thirds majority of Parliament in March, provides for the freedom of speech and press, although other laws are used to restrict criticism of the Government.
Opposition parties (with the exception of the Communist party which is banned and prohibited from publishing), independent trade unions, and various societies and groups publish their own newspapers.

Since it is human nature to avoid pain and seek pleasure, their fellow human beings will resist any attempt that may cause pain to them.
