In 2001 UCC brought in Professor Alistair Rowan, recently retired from the Edinburgh College of Art, to establish a new department to teach the History of Art (http://historyofart.ucc.ie/).
The university has recently established a new gallery, the Glucksman (http://www.glucksman.org/), with a focus on contemporary art and new media.

Queen's College, Cork was founded by the provisions of an act which enabled Queen Victoria to endow new colleges for the "Advancement of Learning in Ireland".

UCC have been drawn in a tough group along with last year's runners up TCD, NUIG, who will also be out for revenge after receiving a 5-0 drubbing at last year's Collingwood and lastly, DIT.
It was much of the same in the second half as UCC tried in vain to break down the solid Trinity defence, mainly due to bad luck and stout defending from the opposition.
