Although, it seems most appropriate for the EVOS endowment to be established through the University of Alaska, it would be my recommendation that proposals for annual funding be accepted from all sources, including federal and state government.

 Coastal Marine Institute
The University of Alaska Coastal Marine Institute (CMI) was created by a cooperative agreement between the University of Alaska and the U. Department of the Interior Minerals Management Service Alaska Region (MMS) to study coastal topics associated with the development of natural gas, oil, and minerals in Alaska's outer continental shelf (OCS).
This year we had nine fine presentations from several different areas of science, including birds, radio frequency identification tags on bears, arctic invertebrates and algal communities, sediment transport, trace metals and hydrocarbons in sediment, the landfast ice zone of the Alaska Beaufort Sea, and the seasonality of boundary conditions in the Cook Inlet.
All of the presentations were very informative and demonstrated to the CMI Technical Steering Committee members the progress that had been made on these CMI-funded projects during the past year.
