In 1950 the college was first approached about relocating to the Dallas area, and 15 years later, in 1965, Dallas Baptist College was established on a 200-acre site at its present location.
At one point in the early l980s an attempt was made to change the name to Baptist University or Texas Baptist University, but the idea was opposed by Baptist Standard Editor Presnall H. Wood and rejected by the Texas Baptist Christian Education Coordinating Board.
For most of its first 30 years in Dallas, the word "troubled" was used so often in reference to the school that it easily could have been named "Troubled Dallas Baptist University." The trouble most often was due to a lack of money and students.
